When I showed my gf the Indiana Jones movies leading up to this, I mentioned Sallah was one of my favorite characters to accompany Indy (besides Marion, Short Round, and Indy's dad) knowing full well Sallah showed up in Dial of Destiny. And because she didn't watch any trailers, she had no idea he would show up and was very happy when he did.

Yes. We only know Short Round as a 10 year old kid. Not an adult. So it would not have worked him being an adult in the film.

Nah, Sallah was better. He's a more important Indiana Jones character since he was in both Raiders and Last Crusade so he deserved to have one last appearance as an old man. Nobody would have even recognized Short-Round cause Indy fans only know him as a kid. Sallah on the other hand is instantly recognizable. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see an Indy film with a grown up Short-Round, but if it had to be either him or Sallah in this movie, I'm happy that we got Sallah.
