There are two time machines in 1885 (the one in the cave and the one Marty was arriving in). That's the only way for Doc to get away from there and to arrive at the end in 1985 with Clara in a flying Locomotive.

The plot hole is that time always moves forward so you would never see a copy of yourself going forward in time. The show is really dumb. When I was a child I asked, why would he be anywhere else in time? And that was the end of it for me.

There is no two Delorean in 1885. When Marty discover the car in the cave in 1955, the car hiden in the cave in 1885 disappear when Marty arrives with the altered Delorean in 1885. Also Doc in 1885 has already sent the letter to Marty in that timeline. He can’t send another letter to Marty to prevent him being attacked by Indians, because that would be another timeline and not the one they are now in 1885.

He didn't want Marty to use the DeLorean to come back to 1885. He wanted him to use it to get back to 1985. In the timeline where Marty and Doc find the DeLorean in the mine in 1955, Marty hadn't gone back to 1885, so there would have been no reason for Doc to shield the fuel line. In the alternate timeline where Marty goes back to save Doc, they don't leave the DeLorean in the mine.

The biggest hole in the science behind this type of time travel machine (which especially annoying seeing as how Doc Brown brought up the notion of thinking 4th dimensionally himself) the DeLorean when it travels in time in reality would end up in the vastness of space when you take into account that the earth is constantly moving ie if Marty leaves 1985 in say Summer to a date in 1955 in Winter the planet not only would be on the other side of the orbit with the sun but in a different section of space.....

There is a simpler solution in the using the preexisting DeLorean in 1885 in that if the car that went back in time was out of gas they could have after patching the line gotten some of the gas from the first car and used it in the second car because after 1955 Doc fixes the car he said he put gas in the tank which means if there was even a little gas left in the first car removing it would not seriously affect the second car because Doc would simply put new gas in it in 1955

You're saying that once Doc in 1885 learns that there's a hole in the gas line, that he should go dig up the car in the mine, and change it? There's no way he'd do that. If he makes a mistake, like causing a cave in or damaging the car further, and now he's caused a massive paradox. He would be taking an incredible risk in going anywhere near the car. It's why he doesn't go get a replacement manifold from it when his experiments with bar-made "fuel" burn out the engine. Also, if he did put a shield on the fuel line, then the car would arrive with a shield on it, and doc would have no idea why it's there; he wouldn't realize it's to protect the fuel line from arrows, and he wouldn't know to go modify the car in the cave, causing the car to arrive without the shield on the next go around.

So '85 Doc Brown had a brain fart. Look past the (alternate) '15 facelift, he's still old enough to have them.

On a DeLorean the fuel line is mostly metal, with about 2 feet of hose on either end connecting it to the fuel tank under the hood and the engine in the back. The fuel tank is protected by a steel plate that sits under it, the fuel line runs between the frame and the body. The only way to rip the fuel line would be to tear through the frame, destroying the car. The spot where it was leaking makes no sense, as the fuel is picked up from the tank bottom and transported up over the tank toward the engine.

Doc definitely could have used the fuel and repaired the Delorean with parts and from the 2nd Delorean that HAD to be there. Remember What he said in the 2nd movie "There are now 2 of you here and 2 of me here" in 1955. Obviously, there are 2 Delorean's there in 1885 just like there were 2 Delorean's there in 1955!

Um the biggest plot hole is that the car Marty uses to get back to 1885 doesn't run on gas at all. Wasn't it converted to Mr. Fusion when Doc went into the future? So it doesn't run off gasoline anymore, just banana peels and Bud Light.

Correct it's a big plot hole would have been smarter to deal with it in a creative way.

It would’ve been risky to mess with the Delorean in the cave. Bigger plot hole was how stubborn Doc was about that $80. Even when he knew paying Mad Dog the $$ he felt he was owed, which could’ve saved his life, he still didn’t.

Wrong. Absolutely wrong. Your whole premise is incorrect. Doc's letter said the TIME CIRCUITS were damaged and needed to be repaired by 1955 doc. It was also pretty obvious that he was more concerned about making sure the car was kept safe so Marty could get home, rather than risk getting caught with it in the old west or dying while trying to fix it himself. Now the train..... Once Marty was safely back in he future, Doc felt free to experiment with another time machine, especially now that he had an intelligent and supportive woman by his side who had a love of exploration and the future (Jules Vern). He also had the hoverboard, which gave me some design and parts to work with. According to comics released by Bob Gale, he built a simple time machine which allowed him to travel into the future and gather more parts to build the train you see in the film.

Rather than risk damaging the DeLorean in the mine by opening the cavern where it was buried and risking bringing the ceiling of the cavern down, Doc could simply have gone to the Western Union office and said "That letter I deposited with you on Tuesday, I just need to add something to it," and then written a PS to say "Take an extra can of gas with you. Trust me." The ripple effect would then have made a can of gas appear inside the DeLorean. Problem solved!
