I’m not a plumber, but I have used teflon tape in instances (shower sprayer. Garden hose, etc) where there was rubber valve because I regard using the teflon as a backup or way to extend the period before any leak might develop.

You are right sir grant, never use tape when there is a gasket, the tape will put pressure on the seal. Never use teflon in pressure fittings . The purpose of the tape is to help create friction. Using tape in some applications cause more problems than solution.

Yes Jamaican workers are unprofessional!! They have no respect for the people paying them and no respect for how hard people have to work to earn money to pay them! Then when you act sternly towards them they say you are not nice! Women are taken advantage of in the worst way. You tell them what you want and they are telling you how they are going to do it! They also feel that every single woman is looking for a man. It’s disgusting! I feel it for her because paying someone to stress you out and fucking up your building would make anyone cry!

I feel bad for her. The CULTURE of work and lack of professionalism needs to change. First, ALL jobs that involve modification to a property should have a written or electronic agreement outlining the job and payment terms. Then involve the courts, on principle, even if it takes years to settle the case.

GM Sir FIx It. I definitely think you should have a trip charge… probably based on a flat fee for everyone, plus an addition for different distances from your base. BUT I also believe in standardize charges for typical jobs, so customers can have a basic idea in advance before even requesting a site visit, and so everyone can feel like they are being charged fairly and not based on a workman’s subjective view of what he/she thinks a certain customer should be able to pay. Your thoughts?

I am not a plumber, but I think I am better than EVERY plumber in Jamaica. OMG, I am totally amazed by what I observed everytime I look at a plumbing job. Where to start? 1. Undersized drains 2. Little or no vents 3. Zero p-traps and the list goes on. They are good at running the water lines, but drsins and vents? MAIN PROBLEMS ARE LACK OF PROPER TRAINING AND INSPECTIONS. If they had to connect to a sewer line, they would have nuff problems. However, the septic system is usually below the house, so no problem. BTW, do they test the DWV systems during a rough-in?

In the states we use GFI plugs in the bathrooms. It will break the circuit in case of a short. Jamaica is still operating in 50 year policy. Just like most of the banks.
