Thank you for a most informative video. I came here from the "Dorrigo Rail Museum" fiasco, via Glenreah Mountain Railway. Its a crying shame these rail lines let fall into disrepair. !

I met a guy years ago in Bondi Junction, circa 1984/85, who said he played in Ragadoll. He would've been around 17 years old.

Be innovative, the Griner days, probably was changing from community service to private enterprise, and highway's were, innovative and big business,, So government is waiting for you, or someone to be enterprising, innovative, and take care of it all yourself!!!

I'd recommend you form your own 'community based' private Rail company, go into business, the Grafton to Lismore, rail company, prove you can form your own company, for the people, you may get noticed by the government, if not your in business, good luck!!!

I am realistic about regional transport services, what we have now is INADEQUATE and we need better (like proper wheel chair accessible bus transport etc) - what we don't need is impetuous to FURTHER cut back what we already have been left with after damaging closures. Having said that I wish you all well from a long-term Northern Tablelands, NSW resident.

The Parramatta light rail cost 2.875 BILLION for 12 kms. It is delusional to think that the Northen Rivers / Murwillumbah line can be restored for just 100 million or even 200 million. These people can tout conspiracies theories between the road transport industy and policicians and be all romantic about train travel. But the realist is that trains have replaced by cars and cheaper and quicker air travel. There is community transport for the elderly which provides better direct to home transport for medical appointments etc. Realistically the best these people can hope for is a more frequent, wheelchair accessable express bus service operating between Lismore, Byron and Mullum and the Gold Coast.

Its not going to happen. The area is too lighly populated for rail and there is no longer QLD rail services to the border. Best the locals can lobby for is a more frequent wheelchair accessable bus service. Rail is not coming back.

It cost $2.875 billion for 12 kms of the parramatta light rail. Thinking they can restore the Murwillumbah line for $330,000 per km is totally delusional and nonsense.

Apparently there is a possibility that the railway line from heading north from Armidale may be re-opened to Glen Innes. With talks of extending it all the way back to Wallangara on the Qld/NSW border.

The government of this country is not interested in reducing pollution on road transport and so on.There is technology available to day to reduce pollution on road transport and so on but nothing from the government. And trains per population creates fare less pollution per person than Anny other transport! And could Be reduced by other technology available?no body is listening !Sad state of affairs!

Reflecting on my recent experience riding the Northern rivers rail trail and capturing it on film, I've been filled with a mix of emotions. As a lifelong train enthusiast and avid cyclist, this journey has been incredibly meaningful. Filming the trail's remarkable stations and bridges, I realized the invaluable preservation of history that would have been lost if the rail were reopened. Witnessing numerous young families with children exploring this rich heritage up close, rather than whizzing past on a train, has been a truly respectful and profound way to honour the rail history of Northern NSW.

Australia has always had corrupt politicians! Today, the only difference is the number, and believe me, it is certainly not less! A case in fact pointing this out is the Federal Government’s decision to hold all hearings into political corruption in private!

If South Aussies were more politically active, rather than drink West End & watch dudes on an oval of grass chase after a bag of air, you'd get more happening. Your state sold the railways to the Feds for one dollar in the 1970s... Yep, $1... Only to lease them off the feds to use for passenger services. Whenever your Premier makes an announcement via his Twitter page regarding rail services in Adelaide, remind him about the regions by posting pics of the past & tell him that he's not improving rail if there are no regional services from Adelaide to Alice Springs, Adelaide to Port Lincoln (Dual Gauge retrofit needed), Adelaide to Victor Harbor, Adelaide to Murray Bridge, Adelaide to Broken Hill..... Remind them that South Australia isn't the city-state of Adelaide. Can't even catch a train from Adelaide to Hahndorf to drink beer steins & then train back home, why visit a tourist town if you have to be sober for the drive home? Contact your local members & annoy them about rail services. How good would it be to have twice-daily train service stopping: Adelaide, Snowtown, Coonamia (Port Pirie), Port Augusta, Manguri (Coober Peedy), Marla & Alice Springs...? Imagine how the north of S.A. wouldn't have to rely on expensive plane flights. NSW is about to retire their trains for new trains, tell your S.A. pollies they might be able to buy them off NSW so they can get their rail services started immediately, instead of having to take 10 years tendering for a build of new trains.

Tweed Shire Council forced its rail trail upon us. But...part of the funding asgreement was1/ to show an operational business plan...before they destroyed our line. 2/ to show conclusively that they had strong community support and 3/ that they have a fully operational and Dep of Ag approved Bio Security Plan . Tweed Shire Council failed on each point. mike yarrow

our rail line destroyed? Yes! Nothing we can do? Wrong. The rail trail fraternity might have stolen our corridor but we actually can control it every metre, day or night. Just seek out The Lost Patrol starring Laurel and Hardy. And smile at how easy it is to close a stolen line down. Maybe then THEY will listen to us. mike yarrow

I admire your ambitions but it is now 5 years since this video was put on You Tube and much has happened. Bridges have been torn down and lines ripped up in places. I visited the Murwillumbah Railway Station a few months ago to do a Fac3ebook report for Abandoned Railways of Australia. The line is gone for good and will be turned into a rail trail. I walked around the lines of the station and took many photos and a gentleman there told me the line is going to be turned into a rail trail.

So, you'd be happy to drive your car to the station, park it, ride the train, and get transport at the other end to get you to your destination? Come on. There aren't many people who would give up the convenience of their own set of wheels for a journey broken into two, three, or four bits with all the sitting around waiting for transport to arrive at each point. The line was closed because no one was using it - especially the locals! Trucks on the highways really annoy me sometimes, and are so dangerous, but no freight was going on this line in the end. Better to put the line to use to benefit the community - financially and with employment. Have a look at the video about the Tumbarumba NSW Rail Trail that was opened in 2020. Don't get me wrong, though - I have been a train enthusiast all my life, from a backyard model railway when I was a kid, to riding the driverless metro in north-west Sydney. What a hoot!
