SCHANDE! Don't be like zour neighbour to the south! The former NCL scandal ripped up ALL forms of electric transport. Well Steven Herper got rid of all the trollezbusses in Canada EXCEPT Vancouver! That would hevebeen a REAL shame as Van has the largest trolletbus fleet in all of north and meso America! (San Francisco Muni has the largest fleet of such in San Francisco, CA). This lookedlike a nice line if only it would have stayed put! I am happy about Skztrain however, verz pleased '' its also of course fully electric! Good to combat climate change!

Beautiful train. I remember going for a ride in that car during the Olympics. Calgary Transit's Ctrain has been using 120lbs rail, pandrol clips and concrete ties (sleepers) since its inception in 1981

Canada is normally a very sensible country, but it does seem to me to be just plain silly to spend all that money to upgrade the street railway for the Olympics and then let a great public asset and tourist attraction decay just for the sake of a few thousand dollars. Vancouver is a fantastic city but it will be the poorer for not having the Downtown Historic Railway.

@Streetcar1743 I'm not "into" the industry as in "I really really like buses" ... I AM in the industry, as in I have been inside the deep recess and workings of a major public transit system for the last 32 years. Quite possibly, the largest system in north america. In fact, its that training that even made me decide to take up operating my own transportation company. This isnt some side-line hobby or just another driver playing buses. This is the real 180% inside out deal.

@Streetcar1743 Ok first off, if that is light rail, I want you to tell that to the CN/CP crews that were called in to re-lay and upgrade the length of track that took nearly a year to do. Second, if electricity is such clean energy, why is it then every "green" person opposes hydro electric dams? Where on earth do you think electricity in this country comes from? It sure doesnt come from the bullshit y'all are spoutin off. I AM in the transit industry dumbass, thats why I know its dead

That was me carryiing the torch ... it was amazing, inspiring, energizing and humbling. I was just the person inside the white toque and red gloves but my view was terrific. I said I would jog slowly but when that flame ignited my torch having crossed over from 11,900 other torchbearers, I felt a charge that energized my feet and the rest of me. There was no effort required. I've always been as Canadian as a hockey puck, but then and there, I felt woven in the fabric of the Canadian flag. txs!

Even this is better than the Torotno subway, toronto cannot even afford to make a line compared to Vancouver

Looks pretty good. The stations seem a little small, but I guess the capability to have high frequencies on the Canada Line should hopefully be enough to avoid overcrowding of the station platforms. Now if only they could find the money to create a SkyTrain subway line servicing the Broadway corridor out to UBC... Vancouver would finally have a great rail rapid transit "backbone" upon which streetcars and lightrail could be added in the future to enhance & strengthen that backbone.

@DJDantePierre Yea except for one thing ... Vancouver paid for this, then sent it packing. So when they decide to actually do this, there will be another excuse as to why they should waste countless millions more of tax money. Investing in people is a far more secure thing to do than to invest in an old, fly-by-night transportation system that we dont build here in North America anymore. Did I forget to mention that its also outdated technology??

Yea whats funny is council approved spending $8M CND to test this system for only 2 months, being in service only 2 weeks, but surprisingly couldnt find $8M CND to house the homeless. They had to go to the Province and have the 3 million something population pay for the homeless in Vancouver. hm, talk about having your priorities straight ??!!??!!??!!??!!

Great video! I MISS IT! Really though, you don't get the full scope of what's happening that night from that 1 angle. Those glass bubbles are roofs that cover an ice rink that passes under Vancouver's shopping Mecca, Robson Street. The streets are lined, from corner to corner, with over 100 THOUSAND people with the most positive vibe ever. A block over to the left is one of Vancouver's clubbing districts. Also, packed. THANKS VANOC!

Thanks for interesting views and talking about this streetcar. I think It is very good idea to built tram system to the city. They are space effective, environmentally friendly. They will encourage people to use public transport. I create cities much more human and nice. I think Vancouver should build not only Olympic line but also return streetcars to the city and build more tracks. Will be normal streetcar system constructed in the future?

Actually... you can drive into the city. Parking is $6/day at Pacific Center which is right in the center of downtown at Robson and Granville. If you want to take the Canada Line, which is the train that goes into downtown from the airport, there is no line-up at all during the day and so far the longest wait time has been 15 minutes. It hasn't been raining at all for the last week - beautiful blue sunny skies! Rata4You, perhaps you should check your facts before posting.
