Was lucky enough to go hear when Paul Patrick was the headteacher before he got done for fraud. At the induction, he used to fire a blank gun to scare kids into thinking about actions having consequences
A narratively intriguing and cinematographically inventive short film. The title of the short is probably apter (for me at least) than the description below the film, as the narrative and music seem to show "existential pain" first and foremost. The causes of that pain may not be so apparent. Yet, the off-framing, the downward pointing of the subjective camera which looks almost furtively at people, work to enhance the sense of isolation of an individual (in the universal sense), and the protagonist (in this particular sense). He seems to say: "I am amongst people, cars, buildings, but I am alone". Interestingly, the shots of the broken, rough texture of the walls, tarmac, pavements, bridge pillars, which enhance this sense of inner disquiet of the protagonist, admirably hark back to what the great Polish cinematographer, Jerzy Wójcik, achieved in the 1960 feature film "Nobody's calling", directed by Kazimierz Kutz: mubi.com/films/nobodys-calling Well done, Jacek! Keep going strong!

Some brilliantly put words. I appreciate your 'existentialist' interpretation. And I'll certainly look into "Nobody's Caling". Thank you so much! ❤️

An excellent endeavour in a film genre which is notoriously difficult to get right. Yet, this experimental short hits the ground running with an intriguing combination of raw gritty sounds and pictures, forcefully combined in a smooth montage. Potent juxtapositions of the claustrophobic and dizzying images produce a dystopian sequence that leaves the viewer with a profound sense of unease. Well done and keep going strong!
