I grew up on Deerlands Avenue, close to the Barnsley Road end. Maybe I've got rose tinted glasses on but I remember Buchanan shops being quite vibrant and busy, it was all independent shops. Its sad to see it now. Its the same with Lindsay Avenue shops.

Emma, please have the decency to knock on some of the doors on Parson Cross. I think you will find some are really nice and well cared for rather than 'reight scruffy'. This, and other, areas of Parson Cross have been deliberately neglected in order to justify demolition, provide 'brownfield' sites for developers and draw money in from the government A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing!

Sounds like the same man who made the video of Emma and Wez on Buchanan Road. The man who placed it on the internet, complete with its unfounded insults about the people of Parson Cross, but who didn't have the decency to either edit them out or distance himself from them. Just a knock on the door of those whose characters were blackened would have disproved those comments and shown a sense of decency and fairness on the part of those organising the event. Surely it can't be right for those taking charge of teenagers to lack these traits and not seek to lead by example instead using the video equipment in an irresponsible manner against people who have no means of defending themselves. What do we know of your lifestyle? Shall we allow some teenagers to guess and place the results on the internet?
@julied24939 жыл бұрын
What a disgraceful piece of work to place on the internet without giving the residents a chance to defend themselves. The girls should have been made to prove the validity of their highly offensive comments before so-called responsible adults gave them credibility by including them in the video. Working in this area, I find it hard to believe that these same adults didn't know that this part of Parson Cross had been deliberately run down for years in order that the council could claim money from the government and in order to justify the demolition of GOOD houses. Shame on you both, what a lesson to teach the young men and women placed under your care!

Enough people have been paid enough money to stop this kind of thing. It is now 2013 - have things changed for the better?
@julied249311 жыл бұрын
People did NOT abandon Parson Cross, it was in the throes of demolition in order for the council to gain access to cash offered by New Labour for brownfield sites (previously developed). The above generation lived through this carnage naturally colouring their views and it would be interesting to know where they are now and whether, 14 years on and folllowing multi-millions of regeneration spend, their lives and views of Parson Cross have changed.

Thanks for the lead digicam11. Brilliant video and one that should be shown in the Town Hall the next time councillors are shedding crocodile tears about the thousands languishing for years on the waiting list. I was born on Parson Cross and know what a decent place it used to be. Council and government policies ruined it, not the people.

Same problem as buchanan road digicam11. The houses were neglected for years due to long-standing plans for demolition in response to the government's desire for 'brownfield' sites i.e land which has already been built on, in a bid to boost the housing market but developers backed out. The people of Parson Cross were the victims of this destruction, not the perpetrators and the estate has yet to recover.
@julied249311 жыл бұрын
Never used to be dangerous until the council devalued the area, emptying houses, leaving derelict buildings and unlit streets ripe for unlawful activities. Of course the councillors didn't live in the mess they left behind and had little sympathy for those who did.
@julied249311 жыл бұрын
Rob W. The house was probably due for demolition anyway because the council wanted to sell the land it stood on to private developers. It saved them the cost of demolishing. Things are not always as they seem!!
@julied249311 жыл бұрын
Sorry about your friend. Sadly this happens all over the city and indeed the country but we have to look further to discover why this is happening. In a caring society, people are caring. In this 'every man for himself' society', created by governments, large sections of the population are stood on in the race for survival. For every ill you will find someone paid to correct it and since 1999 Parson Cross has had millions of pounds poured in. If problems exist today - should we ask WHY??
@julied249311 жыл бұрын
Don't forget many people are earning good money from restoring the mess council/government have created on Parson Cross and some have no scruples as far as demoralising people. Like hundreds of others on Parson Cross, your home is probably well looked after. Ignore the small-minded! Working with young people, the makers of this video should have realised what effect it might have on people before placing it on here!

An alternative view of Parson Cross as seen by Rev. Ric Stott whilst creating street art in the area: 'I am in awe of the depth of humanity I encountered'. 'My experience of people of Parson Creoss has been a very positive one and the response I received from people I met whilst making this piece of art was warm and friendly.' '(This piece of art) is to celebrate the life, vibrancy and goodness I encountered on Parson Cross'.
@julied249311 жыл бұрын
This video was created when Parson Cross was deliberately being run down to make way for private developers to move in. People suffered terribly at this time as they were turned out of their homes, often against their will, and had to live amongst the dereliction that resulted. How irresponsible not to edit Emma's flippant comments that 'all houses on Parson Cross are filthy!" Ironically, the developers backed out.
