It appears to have been in gear when started. Lovely bike- I have lusted after one for about 50 years!

Lovely Chief sleeping in there too. Is Vincent for sale?

Sadly, it is going on Bring A Trailer.

Well, it did start! But you really should look into the correct starting procedure, it will make starting much easier, just look up stating the Vincent. Good luck! Chris B.
@richardpoole7623Ай бұрын
Thanks, Chris. There are more "correct " cold starting procedures listed on the VOC forum than I have fingers and toes. This video happens to show probably the most stubborn cold start I have had with a Vincent twin. But the truth is the truth, and sometimes they can be a pig to start. But oh my gosh, what a glorious thing once you have lift off!

I recommend a quality sounds system playback for a real feel of a Vincent.

If you open up an Amal carb you would learn '½ choke' does nothing while idling. It would restrict air/mixture if you gave the bike ½ throttle ~~4000 RPM. Nice bike though.

you have a start button! I was the original owner of a 1974 Norton 850 commando - but that unmistakable sound of the commando engine it’s music to my ears! Beautiful bike.

Lovely Mk3 Roadster ! - What starter motor are you running on it ?..
@richardpoole7623 Жыл бұрын
The starter is original. My only two modifications to were to replace the electrical wires to the starter, solenoid, and most importantly, ground with double sized wires. It has given reliable starts ever since, eventhoughthe engine compression is extremely good. Just keep the battery hot. Look for it in the next few weeks on Bring A Trailer. I sent in my application early December, but they are backed up terribly. I have been the caretaker of this beauty for 12 years, but sadly, the time has come to let it go. Love to hear your comments should you see it live on BAT. Thanks.

@@richardpoole7623 It seems to work surprisingly well ! - is it still in the original 2-brush configuration ?.. The original (untouched) starter on my own MK3 does still function but recently it will only manage if you use the kickstart to ease the engine over compression first !. - I was considering going for a 4-brush conversion but in the end I decided to go for a complete new 'Wosp' starter. I'll be fitting it in the new year, along with heavier guage starter wiring - probably similar to what you have used - and a slightly more powerful battery (if I can find one that fits without having to butcher the battery carrier..) A Happy New Year to you from the UK, and make sure you keep the shiny side up !

Sorry, I got a bit distracted and am just getting back to you. The starter is original, and seems to tick the engine over nicely, even though the compression is incredibly strong. What I did that the factory didn't do was run automotive wiring not just to the starter from the solenoid, but from the battery to the solenoid, and from the battery to the ground. This setup draws much less amperage when cranking, providing more energy for the starter's needs. Thanks for your comments. Good luck with your starter upgrade.
