why not just stop invading the ocean with garbage instead of collecting what greedy people throw?

"We ship the containers back to Europe" doesn't sound like a wildly sustainable thing to do, and more like a quick fix. Hope that local recycling facilities can be built and create value where the plastic has been collected.

OPEN THE GLASS FACTORY BACK UP!!! I THINK WE SHOULD GO BACK TO GLASS!!! like back in the day .....milk delivery men should come back as well as the soda delivery truck should come back.. oh i remember ....use paper to wrap up fresh foods and the can should stay cans but still need to be recycled...i think plastics are way more harmfull

Sadly the reality in engineering is "people-do what people-do" so you have to engineer for what people are like rather than how they should behave, you have to make the right way the easiest way.

The only long term solution is for governments to charge an "ultimate disposal fee" reflecting the cost of cleanup and collected at the point of manufacture, because this is a societal cost imposed on everyone. Costs are determined based on type of pollutant and how long it lives in the environment. For a one-use throwaway disposable plastic water bottle, I would guess the cost would have to be around $1.00 per bottle. This cost is passed on to the consumer. If it kills the plastic water bottle industry, excellent!

90+% of all of the garbage that pumps into the oceans are coming from China, Africa and India, once the rainy season begins in India and Africa the head of the swelling rivers are a tsunami of garbage as the people use the rivers as landfills it’s heartbreaking and 🤬😡 at the same time. Most of these rivers the locals have and are actively killing the rivers and themselves it’s mind blowing as these same people rely heavily on the rivers for life I don understand how they can be so careless

Thank you for the interview! People around the net were wondering where OceanCleanup's recycled plastic goes, now I know that I can likely support KIA too for helping those guys out! I wish them the best and that the funding never stops. And I want the plastic companies to fund their operations as well, for what they did to us and our planet.

You have to make a deposit on all plastic, and make scraps that can melt everything, so that it can be sold back to those who need it
@yfarrellАй бұрын
You could quit making plastic out of oil, you could actually recycle the plastic you’ve already made instead of gaslighting mankind into thinking it’s all recyclable, you could quit creating new packaging that can’t be recycled at all AND YOU COULD PAY TO CLEAN UP YOUR GOD DAM* MESS! You are poisoning the planet for profit.

I think blackshirt guy was kinda unclear. To be clear most people under about 40 or 45 only know how to design for additive. There's like a 20-30 year gap where traditional subtractive manufacturing was just not taught for the most part - but everyone has had access to a 3D printer and designed for that for at least 10 years now. What he's alluding to is more complex design strategies like sub-divisional voxel patterns, genertice design, thermally optimized designs from simulations etc. The issue there isn't lack of knowledge it's lack of access. So many of these software packages start at around $10-20k. The only realistic way to get access is to get a masters degree in a specific field and/or work a very specific job that pays for that software. Before the rise of OnShape and Fusion360 - similarly general CAD knowledge was pretty low. You could land a job just by being good with CAD. Now, every highschooler and hobbiest is at least basically proficient with 3D CAD.

Yea. I've watched quite a few videos from these ocean cleanup people. It's mind boggling that in our modern world today we allow organizations out there everyday doing this type of work be forced/reduced to public poormouthing For meager donations to be and stay operational. The segment that spoke to me the loudest was how they had barely been able to come up with their minimum yearly operation costs of 25 million dollars. It's like 25 million dollars? Per year? Yea how about 25 million dollars a day. We all know in our hearts that big corporations and governments the world over easily have the money and should gladly be giving people like ocean cleanup that much or more.

now hopefully that material handler isn't on tiktok in the bathroom when you need him at the same time.. or hopefully your barrel heats don't have to go from 500 to 400, or lets say you have to actually use rust protect and mold cleaner, now lets say you have to actually change the EOA as well.. I can do a MC in 30 minutes on a 500ton alone. 15 with a second person that's 1/2 inch quick disconnects and hydraulic for cores/ejectors and that including changing the EOA on a sepro and non magnetic base. Even faster if i'm going to a sister tool and using the same method of clamping (direct to direct or clamp to clamp with same thicknesses) 2500 ton, yea that'd take 2.5 hrs on a 40 ton tool but that's partly due to grabbing aux units from other presses and hopping up and down grabbing 6 hr cable sets and torqueing each bolt down to 650.

200 ton roboshot that takes 3 minutes just for the die height alone used to take 25min with k/o bars.. people just don't know how to stage for the next changeover, if you have everything you need they're pretty quick.

you would be surprised, worked for a company making stuff used in supermarkets, stores all different price tags rails, holders, separators, gravity bins and whatnot. Over 350 molds and many colors, inserts. Practically every day we would make different color or version samples for the clients. But the real orders were sometimes 30 minutes run time too.

Some years ago I did mold changes with a over head crane and my average time was 15 mins or less for last part to first part off, the fastest change over I did was 6 mins, this was blowing out the water lines, and removing hoses, we have hydraulic clamps with positive stops on most of the machines with a few mag clamps, I can't imagine how fast I would have been with this system.
