To begin any good deed with the recitation of the Noble Qur'an would only increase the reward and blessings. Not sure why the imaam of the masjid wasn't encouraging the recitation of the Noble Qur'an rather he was discouraging people from doing so.

The imam mentioned it because we try our best to follow our beloved prophet salallahu alayhi wassalam and the best of people the companions who understood this deen better than us. We do what they done and we stop where they stopped, so to start and the end every lecture with the Qur'an wasn't found or practiced by the people who were better than us. Once this principle is understood by the people everything will become clear.

With Al-Quran, it is always a blessing, barakah, source of truth & protection. Nothing wrong for doing extra recitation, dzikir, or even recite some ayat as our daily du'a. Always start & end your day with Al-Quran Al-Kareem. MashaAllah.

I agree 100%, then why is the imaam of the masjid discouraging people from doing so?? The ummah is already in turmoil and confusion the last thing we need is imaams discouraging people from reciting the Noble Qur'an
