late to the party...Like the overview video of your Willys truck. I've never seen a functioning PTO on a truck like that. And your camera work interesting: a great view of spinning shafts, then your roll out from under the Jeep, spin around, and land smack dab in view of the engine bay! That was neat! Also looks like you have the coveted W-O insignia on the tailgate. Maybe an update video on the truck? Let me know if your interest has waned and you are looking to sell 'er. There cheers for the Willys!

When Landrover started to make a prototype they of course first fitted Willys engine, trans, axels suspension and a rear pto setup which either they bought from or (imported from U.S A )? Allthough the UK had plenty of WW2 surplus willys/ ford MBs I do not thing any were fitted uo with pto,?? maybe sombody out there knows. It might have been that Rover knocked a pto up after all std parts apart from gearbox /transfer connection?

Sounds like the bearings in the belt drive are shot.

It's the gears of the 90 degree turn that are making the noise, not the bearings. If you think these units were perfectly quiet when they were new, you'd be wrong. No doubt this unit is worn some, but if lubricated right, it will probably last many more years.

Superb ride, especially cross country. Suggest you keep the water proof electrics. With a snorkel these Champs can run in 6 feet of water.

I look forward to seeing this progress into a nicely restored Champ or should I say FV 1801a as the military version is known as. You were very fortunate to get them for next to nothing they are starting to command some serious money in the U.K when nicely restored. I owned one some forty years ago when they could be picked up for a few hundred pounds and have regretted selling it ever since. They are not the easiest vehicle to work on but when finished it will be worth the effort.
