My favorite professor was YH Ma in chemical engineering. I had him for Heat Transfer then Mass Transfer then my MQP in Mass Transfer. In Heat one of my exams got hammered by the grad student because I attacked the problem from a different direction, looking for time rather than temperature, I wanted a safety factor. I took my test to Professor MA showed him my model, my derivation and solution. It was "longer and slightly more complicated and he asked why I went in that direction. I explained I was looking to see how much of a safety factor I had. He was so pleased he said "you are thinking like an engineer. Mass Transfer was my first B, everything else had been an A. So I did my MQP in his Mass Transfer lab. I did it solo because I had gone to WPI as an older student in my Junior year. By then all the responsible students were already paired up. Professor Ma agreed that I could do a solo project with him. He spent 5 months in China that year putting a crimp in his advising, and my equipment needed factory rebuild and recalibration wich also took months. I wrote most of my report without data, found a mistake in a previous MQP and finished the project with days left in the year. I was almost 36 years old and exhausted after I passed it in. To many weeks of no sleep. I'm long retired now

Fun fact: "scientists" at WPI reasearching how winds affect fires, this research has nothing to do with how charcoal functions at BBQs

Ok so you spray paint the metal piece how does it neutralize it? The robot has to neutralize the threat immediately otherwise the whole project is meaningless.

This was a great interview! I have been spending the last year learning python/django, and AI has been a great "add on". I agree with everything Rich said! It takes time to process information and we are always in such a hurry to ask the next question and get a quick answer, but if we don't slow down and digest the responses, question them, grow from them, then we are either wasting our time or just entertaining ourselves, but we are not growing. Using Chat GBT is a skillset that is definitely worth developing - to utilize it to get further clarification, explain this code set, connect the concepts, internalize the information to build our own insights, it is a great learning assistant....but it does not replace the struggle that comes from "owning" the information....that comes from time, digesting/processing and persistence in getting to the other side. Thanks for the validation! Would love to see the article that Rich wrote.

In Sweden a lot of families still use actual lit candles on their trees. They only light them when they are in the room. I think that’s insane.
