Bro use black color sanding. (İt called as silisyum carbur if im not wrong) this sanding paper very strong for erode but it die quickly. Your paper using for wood works. Very durable but you need too many times for done your job. Thats worthless for saving 1-2 extra dollars. İ was using alluminium carbur paper . İt medium durable and medium erode but i must still use silisyum carbur paper. İ remember my old pains and faults in this projects 👍

I’m having a hard time why everybody has been using a flux core welder lately is it because it cost? Anyways, I admire what you’re doing. Keep up the good work.
@ablecraft842Ай бұрын
JDFirebird, Thank you for your comments! Doing autobody work has taken on the dimension of art and craftsmanship combined. I'm using a flux core welder because it the best application based on these factors. Cost, environment and portability. It's more affordable to plug into a 110 outlet. I weld mostly outside, and the flux is less susceptible to wind and rain. The flux core welder is lighter and more mobile to move around than two tanks to include the welder itself. Have yourself an Ablecraft day!

The biggest plus i I found with the entry level flux core welders was to use 16 or 18 gauge metal. 20 and 22 gauge was just frustrating with burn throughs and holes as a result.the thicker metal was the heat sink where I could at least avoid more holes.

If they had dropped the VE, and made it standard with 4 or 5 speed, ABS and side air bags it would be GOATED for long term value. Also would be great for cabin air filter. Common problems at this age: oil burning due to piston ring design, valve cover gasket leak, timing chain tensioner leaks, pulley tensioner assembley replace with 03+ model. Otherwise normal wear/tear for struts and springs and various other parts at this age.
@ablecraft8423 ай бұрын
Kmook76, Thank you for the concise commentary on the VE Toyota Corolla. This Corolla does consume oil which I suspect is leaking past one or more of the piston rings with a bluish tint of smoke upon start up. I top off the oil with a quart every 1000 miles or so. However, no other leaks externally from the engine, window seals intact and all other maintenance is up to date. This VE is remarkably doing well at 324,831 miles on the odometer. Have an Ablecraft Day!
@kmook763 ай бұрын
@@ablecraft842 Awesome. Mine is consuming the same at 227k miles. This gen did not have enough oil drain back holes in the piston combined with low tension rings resulting in oil burning. Do regular oil changes every 3-5k and use cheap synthetic to reduce burning and top off times. If it get's worse do a b12 chemtool piston soak.

How does the patch hold up after 1 year? did any rust poke through or was the repair successfull? Do you have any new tips after 1 year of doing flux core welding repairs as for longevity? I have heard that proper( with cutting away all the rust) fiberglass+resin repair is very good bang for buck and it can last a very long done when done correctly as well.
@ablecraft8424 ай бұрын
Thank you for your contribution. The results of my welding process have been greatly enhanced by constructive comments and questions by contributors such as yourself. I say it's been an iterative process over time. Hopefully, empowering would be welders and metal fabricators doing this type of metal repairs! The rocker panel passenger side rust repair is a success! The patch is intact with no rust forming on backside of panel as of 19 August 2024. I'll share some of my observations and perceptions utilizing Flux core welding process. Lesson learned from flux core welding are as follows. The optimal welding tip length is between 1/2" and no longer than 3/4". The steel that you weld to needs to be free of corrosion and if you are butt welding materials be sure to have materials clamped together with no gap between them. Welding magnets can be utilized to assist butting materials together prior to getting those tack welds in place. Time on trigger is a four count say 1 one thousand, 2 one thousand, 3 one thousand, 4 one thousand when welding. Saying that out loud helped it become and unconscious mental thought, after a while you intuit it. The distance of welding tip striking material is optimally 1/8" of an inch approximately. Welding beads is more of a dragging motion with tip canted rearwards I pay particular attention to setting up the welding machine to properly process the materials. Dialing the voltage and wire speed is a must. I will tack weld some spots to see how the welds looks and just the voltage and wire speed accordingly. Failure to do so will result in over penetration with too much voltage and not enough voltage little penetration welds don't adhere to material. Cleaning off the slag with a wire brush assists with follow on welds and not wasting welding wire. Also, while welding I will apply tack welds a bit of distance apart from each other to keep the material from distorting due to the heat from the weld. Another technique I been practicing is to do a zig zag motion on the materials while doing a lap joint when moving horizontal and when while welding down (veridical). Vulcan .030 wire has been my wire of choice to weld with it spools out evenly and works well in humid environments and rain. I frequently weld outside in inclement weather. Bondo glass fiber resin has been a good bondo to use in areas where the metal may frequently come into contact with water. Then apply Evercoat automotive seam sealer to weld seam. Please view the attached link of the Ranger having Bondo glass applied the metal patch prior to primer paint. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6elZ6OdoaqNZ7ssi=aCk0ZYFTjBryGoQE Have yourself an Ablecraft day! If i can do it you can do it even better!
