Coal mining should have been phased out during the 1960s. Stalinist Scargill destroyed the NUM by starting a fight he could not win.

This is where people clash, yes it was sad that these family men was losing there job, yes it was a shame that the industry was shutting but the demand for coal had rapidly declined and most of the pits was costing way to much money to keep open when we didn't need them, plus people need to read into the history of pit closures and see that most pits was closed under labour and was still shutting under Blair

Thatcher spent her Christmas with Savile, and who buys ‘Newspapers’ nowadays? I also stopped paying the TV license 11 years ago. I haven’t filled the last 3 census forms in, I don’t vote, am not on the electoral register and never complete and return the council’s intelligence gathering questionnaire asking “who lives at this address?” And If I could avoid it, I wouldn’t pay council tax either. Fck the system.

My opinion of ‘The State’ and its helpers changed forever in 1984. Now, I hate the cops and wold never help at anytime, I never vote, I never fill in council rate “how many people live at you address” intelligence gathering questionnaires, nor have I filled in the government census for 12 years now, I will NOT EVER pay the BBC license scam and generally keep out of THEiR system. F’kem.

Interesting election result in 2019, I do wonder just how many of these ex-miners ended up voting for the Conservatives

The guy speaking about the Tories seeking revenge on the miners for 72 and 74 is dead right but then the miners sole purpose for striking in 74 was to bring down the government. Thatcher bided her time.

I understand how you feel, but pits had been shutting for years, under all government parties, and for all the years Tony Blair was in power, he never kept a pit open or opened any new ones.

I agree that the Tories don't value the working class. Good reason not to vote for them. And the same goes for Labour.

Yep the Conservatives have a lot to answer for. We now import coal and just look how much our power bills have gone up, they have even sold off our Nuclear power stations to the French "EDF", just to make quick money! Bring on the revolution. Why have we not had one yet? WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE?? The next big hit by this Coalition Goverment, Conservative run!! is the NHS, they intend to make it all "PRIVATE". What manufacturing do we have in the UK? BRITISH OWNED???? It was all one big sell out in the 1980s and it's still going on.

Labour began the privatisation of the NHS.

In 1979 the pig-class revolted. They used their money & propaganda press to install a government to overthrow the people. Privatise, deregulate, abolish all financial and currency controls, destroy all public services and assets built by the people for the people. Its still going on. They destroyed a nation and built a squalid racket for their own class. They created a wasteland infested with packs of crazed diseased rats fighting over the contents of a burst bin-bag ! Oh! Were grateful for all the food banks tho ! FOOD BANKS ! Britain 2014 !

Grimebridge was actualy closed twice under private ownership 90-92 then worked with 6 men till final closure summer 96, but the context of this video is the demise of a NATIONAL industry not private mines whos contribution is/was minimal. Thatcher said ALL the pits where unprofitable then why is it some of the ex NCB collieries continued in private ownership untill this past few years and the fact we still have 4 deep mines and 4 surface mines being worked by uk coal.....
@kid70s112 жыл бұрын
Parkside wasn't the last pit in lancashire at all. Grimebridge worked on until 96 and Hill Top opened a year later. The coal board and British coal were not the be all and end all of coal mining. Lancashire had it's fare share of private coal mines
