I'm on holiday in the South West every year, I would love to add a Tuna fishing trip to the holiday. I'd also make repeat weekenders down to get more sessions in. I disagree with the Global warming suggestions, our seas aren't warming.
@fishinglinespodcast43643 жыл бұрын
I think the amount of money it could drag in to local economies makes it worthwhile alone. As you say, in the holiday season you're going to be booked up with folks who are down there already. Then you'll get anglers making the trip to take a whole boat for a few days at a time.

Do you think lakes will survive this and talking about finances of lakes do you think the sport is getting too expensive
@fishinglinespodcast43643 жыл бұрын
The lakes will survive COVID for sure. There has never been so many anglers on the bank , with loads of folks furloughed on 80% wages and loads of free time. Its been a bumper year for most anglers. Otters are probably the biggest threat to our sport as they will attack the clubs that cant afford to put fences up. So (to your second point) the price will go up to pay for fences. The days of the smaller clubs and day ticket waters offering good value for money fishing is under threat.

Great podcast! Jon and I are good mates, he can certainly tell a story or two! What is really interesting is the change in the fish stocks off the coast of N.Devon where we live. 30 years ago we would catch lots of cod, now there are hardy any. Tuna from the shore anyone? ;-)
@fishinglinespodcast43644 жыл бұрын
Its a damned shame whats happened to our fish stocks, hopefully we can reverse it over time. Lol...yeah imagine hitting a 200lb tuna on the shore....let alone a 500lb one! 😯😯😯
@shaunthorne93524 жыл бұрын
@@fishinglinespodcast4364 Just got off the phone to Jon. We now have many different species that we didn't have years ago. It may be that the trawlers have wiped out the cod but other species have taken their place. Several species of bream are now in the estuary, smooth hounds are abundant, we've had trigger fish here for a while now, and now more reports of tuna. The estuary has been a protected nursery area for bass now for several years and there are large numbers of schoolies around now which is very encouraging, so it's not all doom and gloom. We just need to make sure the supertrawlers are banned and return to small scale sustainable fishing
@fishinglinespodcast43644 жыл бұрын
@@shaunthorne9352 its good that nature has filled the void. But yes, those super trawlers should be banned from at least 10 miles from the shore
