It is a heartbreaking song. There was romance in all the brokenness and poverty of the city back then. The lyric "sharing a can of corn" just does not have the poignancy in Wham's cover. Here, it does.

This song is timeless! However I still prefer George Michael’s version, it tastes different and he sang it with so much emotional way. But this one is nice as well

I seem to be among the few who knew this is the original song. Was (Not Was) is an amazing group. I love Wham's version as well. I played the heck out of the cassette back in '86 and yes I'm old as hell and love it 😋
