Great episode! Upon Ansel's exposition I kept thinking to myself "Shoot her! Shoot her! Shoot her!" 🤣 I like the idea of the nanites with a collective consciousness and the battle that we have found ourselves in, unwilling agents of a war that has been raging since before our time, during previous worlds! The stakes are high! I am really invested in seeing how this story will be completed!

@@tombraider862 Yes, I am a pure analog guy when it comes to tabletop gaming, not only solo but rpgs and tabletops in a general. My worst scenario is you play a group rpg and everybody at the table has a laptop in front of them and everything is done digitally with a VTT. 😥. Sad thought.

After searching a lot for a cool way to use a D20 as an Oracle, I found your channel and this 4 episodes adventure. It feels to me so cool and complete. I still need to read ShadowDark rules to fully understand if its just part of its rules, or there was something else you added. Please, would you care to explain again the "minor/major wound" mechanic? I watched the first episode after this final drider battle but wasn't able to fully understand it.
@Solospelunking
@Solospelunking 13 күн бұрын
@@ignaciojzam You don't need Shadowdark to use the SoloDark rules. They are tailored to Shadowdark but work with any other RPG as well. Regarding the wound mechanic: The oracle results can be modified by the word "but" if the d20 result is odd. So instead of yes you could also get "yes, but...". The same with no. "But" modifies the result without negating it. So in combat I made it player facing and just asked "Do I manage to dodge or block the blow?". If the result was yes its fine. Yes, but means Yes, but not completely. I suffer a minor wound. No means a major wound. Something like that. I didn't write it down or anything. This was just made up on the fly for this series.👋

@@Solospelunking Right, it was SoloDark, not Shadow Dark! My mistake. Many, many thanks for the explanation. Now I get it. In fact, it vaguely reminds me of the "Hit / Weak Hit" mechanics from Ironsworn, wich just makes it even better. The best to you and your sleepy family! Hi! Whats the damage output rule you use for solo? Trying to add something in that vein for shadowdark solo
@Solospelunking
@Solospelunking Ай бұрын
@@garaleos I use different methods, depending on the system and party size. So when I play D&D using Legendary Characters damage output is normal per attack but I do get more actions. In my current Star Dark game I use Black Streams: Solo Heroes but only for incoming damage, since I have two characters. Long Story short: If I have only one char and play OSR I would use Black Streams Solo Heroes as written. In Shadowdark monster level would be the exact same as HD. If I play 5e solo I use Legendary Characters.
@garaleos
@garaleos Ай бұрын
@@Solospelunking yeah I am giving my char 2 attacks per turn + movement and it's working fine. and also diving incoming damage by 5. and starting at max health of HD. so far so good. thanks!

@Solospelunking yeah it makes sense. so hit points = monster level. for shadowdark, at least it makes sense. it also allows using PCs that are not high on damage, instead of just fighters.

I'm familiar with Black Streams/Scarlet Heroes but this is the first I've heard of Legendary Characters. Which would you say is a better match for White Box FMAG? I know it comes down to personal preference in the end. Having a party's worth of HP seems a bit strange to me (Legendary Heroes).
@Solospelunking
@Solospelunking Ай бұрын
@@Mind_of_MATT For more OSR like systems, which FMAG is in my book, I would use Black Streams. Regarding the party's worth of hp however its just other numbers, same principle. But in my Star Dark game I also use Black Streams for incoming damage. It is a good match.

I'm struggling with the event die haha. I dont know if the event should be related to the scene or external. also, I am trying to pick a main supplement for quest generation that is also small in size. currently using Game Unfolding Machine, but I don't know if it's the one for me. any suggestions? I use a custom made Verb and Noun table but sometimes it's just not enough for my creativity to sparkle.
@Solospelunking
@Solospelunking 27 күн бұрын
@@garaleos Regarding the events: It does not have to be related to the scene but it can. I go with whatever crosses my mind. The purpose of the events is to remind the player that the world is a living world that also exists outside of the hero's actions. So the event can also be something completely unrelated. Regarding inspiration I find myself using scene unfolding machine a lot. It has very evocative action, subject and adjective tables. Also you can use a mixture of oracle rolls and random tables. So when the event die indicates an event, roll it again: 1-3: roll on a fitting random encounter table, 4-6: interpret a prompt.
@garaleos

this series is great. I kind of do pretty much exactly the same amount of journaling as you. I liked the idea of not using too many supplements, especially if it's for the same stuff. I do have a custom hexcrawl rule and weather stuff that I use and another for carousing. I am currently playing shadowdark again. will probably add something for crafting. I am playing one char this time using the rules you mentioned about incoming damage and adding an extra attack action to the PC. It improved my experience a lot. I really like your channel and content, and I hope you grow a lot cause you deserve it. You give very helpful advice, and the other videos are really entertaining. I am using an oracle more similar to what Arcane Library published for their solo supplement, which, to be honest, felt kind of small in terms of content. Anyways, keep it up! Cheers!
