I Raced two different classes from 1999 till 2006 Yamaha KT 100 super box and FY and I moved to HPV seniors while also running Rotax Max seniors. I practiced twice a month($300. A day ) and raced 2 to 3 times a month regionals and occasionally travel national SKUSA with fuel oil tires and entrance fee each race was about $700 that was no transportation cost included and no extras included I would say a typical local race weekend would be $1000 for two classes one day so if you race three times that’s $3000 in the extras you’re looking at 5000 a month that’s not counting time away from work add two seasonal motor rebuilds for the Yamaha or the HPV and that was about $475- 700 each time if nothing was broken it was just being freshen the Rotax rebuild was twice a season that was about $1500 for each time$5500.-7K per season. This is not including the investment of having purchased two KT 100’s 2 HPV’s and two Rotax With passports. I had three chassis A Tony extreme an Arrows CIK and Parolin tag.. two $750. Helmets sparco suit booties gloves leatte neck brace. I purchased all three chassis one year old used average was $2500 each by the time I added the correct size seats I have a roller for roughly 3100.00 another$ 5500 for hubs extra axles wheels AIM data acquisition-miscellaneous expendables you need for the race track. Add in your trailer Rolling grid stands and vertical kart holders for storage at home ez up Honda generator $7500. ( not including the $20k rollaway full of tools Specialized alignment tools )Each prep practice would take two hours of prep each kart in the garage each race weekend took 3-4 prep per kart hours of before I ever getting into the track. Here on the West Coast we race eight months a year so let’s say it cost me 50 Kto have fun racing amateur occasional foray into the semi pro SKUSA / Rotax challenge ranks. In ‘02 My local neighbor was running his 12 year old son nationally this was sponsored on a Tony factory team here in the United States so he got his motors in his chassis for free all his dad paid for was Tires traveling fuel and $250. An event charge they would fly to the races from California everywhere in the United States where they ran SKUSA and every major pro event In the continental United States I know he was spending $65000 + a year on travel expenses. When he turned 14 they quit karts they moved to arriving drive formula Mazda and spec Mazda he said for 100 K the kid raced against the pros in real cars which is where he wanted to go. The boy now grown as a factory BMW driver in IMSA .. I stopped racing in 07 sold all my karts and gear.. purchased a used 89 swift formula Ford.. Race SVRA three times a year and do a track day three times a year..for under $15k.. as long as I don’t take any corners off and I don’t blow up the motor every two years I do a routine tear down and maintenance and that’s about 3500 bucks freshen the motor we do that ourselves and that’s about another 2000

Gotta love Nick Woods! He rebuilt my motor after it blew up during second round of a race. Missed 2 races but then got picked to be on display for NHRA so we had to get my motor done. Did a dyno pull and had 52 hp!

If you drill the hole to small the first time is the original piece you already cut out and put it on the starter drill. It will go back in it's original place and hold the hole saw on location while you drill your bigger hole

Wow great lines. I managed a PR today from 87sec to 81 sec today. Do you have any tips for throttle manipulation going in and out of corners? Is it better to not carry more speed into corners? Thats where I falter.

I spent around $2.5k for my used LO206 kart on Facebook marketplace. It didn't come with a seat because I didn't fit in his, but the guy gave me an extra motor, a set of gears (66-73) and a box of random things (extra air filter, spark plug, oil, air filter rain hood, etc). I paid around $300 to have my shop put in the seat and look it over for me. It was pretty much good to go from that point as a bare minimum. From there, I spent around $600 on the MyChron and $200 for a cheap kart stand (they have really nice ones that are more expensive). My helmet, racing suit, rib protector, gloves, etc cost around $500, but you can spend way more (or less) on that stuff. Since then, my biggest expense is tires. I probably spend around $300 for a set that will last a few months. Other than that, I probably spend around $100 or so on little things (fuel line here, throttle cable there, gas, oil, etc). I'd say, with seat time, races and upkeep on the kart, my karting budget for my LO206 kart is around $300/month (more or less). My rental kart budget is a different story. I run rentals more than my 206 because the rental kart track is closer to home, and I can just hop in the car after work and head over without having to load/unload all my gear. I just hit my goal lap time, which necessitated several sessions/day, several days/week for around 4-6 weeks... at about $300/week. Rental karts are more expensive in the long run because you're paying a premium for someone else to do the upkeep. I think it's good to run rentals even if you own your own kart. Going forward, I'm planning to spend around $200/month on rental karts. That'll include a race or two and a few arrive-and-drive sessions. Some of my karting friends don't own their own kart, so if I wanna race with them, I have to do rentals. Honestly, you get what you put into it. Once you get a kart on the track, I think it's reasonable to expect to spend a couple hundred dollars/month keeping it going for the season. Seat time is how you get good - and seat time leads to more maintenance you have to do on the kart to keep it going. But, it's a lot cheaper than say, a Late Model where you spend $10k every time you hit the wall.

Watching this video was so relaxing. :) I've been paying our team's engine guru to do the work and while it's always been done well, it is expensive to do two engines, twice a year. I actually thought this would be much harder but it seems pretty straight-forward after watching this. For 2/3rds the cost of one service I can get a kit and do it my engines myself (since I do pretty much everything else on them).
