This is what happens when you don't understand the culture of a country and give opinions based on your own makeup. In Brazil, we don't use the same word to define color and race/ethnic group. Negro = Race. Black = color While you use the "one drop rule" to define someone as "black", we, as mixed-race people, understand that this is much more than appearance, but rather cultural identity. A sense of belonging. You don't even understand what the term "quilombola" means. You limit yourself to mere appearance. In Brazil, it doesn't matter if you're black, as long as you have money, then you'll be treated equally. If this doesn't happen, the perpetrator may regret it (including legally) for judging by appearance and not by social status. The problem isn't exactly color, but money. On this point, I agree with her, because we had institutional/structural/cultural racism that segregated us financially in a "cordial" way. But to say that Brazil celebrates black TV presenters is blatantly ignorant when we had a black president 80 years before the US. This happened on Rede Globo, which is an elitist TV network. This has been happening on other TV networks for decades. It was just the last one to do so. That's why we celebrated having burst the bubble of elitism. Our problem is much more financial than racial, although there are racists.
