what about the removing of salts and also the building up of bacteria? can you explain how a biozid or a reactor will be inplemented into the coolingtower?
@MEPAcademy2 күн бұрын
HVAC cooling tower water treatment involves several key processes to maintain water quality, prevent system scaling, and control biological growth. The water is typically treated with chemicals such as biocides to prevent algae, bacteria, and fungi growth, which can clog the system. Anti-scalants and corrosion inhibitors are added to prevent mineral deposits and metal degradation within the cooling tower and piping. Additionally, the water's pH, conductivity, and hardness are monitored and adjusted to ensure optimal conditions for heat transfer and equipment longevity. Periodic blowdown, where a portion of the water is removed, helps to reduce the concentration of dissolved solids in the system.

How about WET BULB DEPRESSION RATIO?
@MEPAcademy4 күн бұрын
For evaporative cooling systems, we often refer to the evaporative efficiency, which relates the actual temperature drop achieved by the system to the maximum possible cooling (based on wet bulb depression). Evaporative Efficiency = Dry Bub Temp - Supply Air Temp / Dry bulb Temp - Wet Bulb Temp.

so if im using a pocket psychrometer, and it measures wet bulb & dry bulb as well as the relative humidity, do i need to be in the wet bulb mode in order to read the correct humidity %?
@MEPAcademy8 күн бұрын
Not sure how your pocket psychrometer works, but you need at least the dry bulb and wet bulb temperatures to find the relative humidity. With these two values you can determine relative humidity. The dry bulb temperature alone won't work, as the wet bulb temperature indicates the level of moisture for any particular dry bulb temperature.

What is the transfer time of ATS
@MEPAcademy12 күн бұрын
Depending on the ATS and application it could be from 1 to 30 seconds. Detection takes milli-seconds to a second. then you have the Generator start time which can be 5 to 15 seconds, then less than a second to transfer power to the generator. There are other backup sources that can reduce the time of power transfer, such as UPS for critical facilities which can transfer power in milli-seconds, but has shorter run times so the use of a generator can assist for longer periods. Here are some others: Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Fuel cells, Solar or Wind with battery storage, Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Micro-Grids, Natural Gas Turbine Generators.

There's a thing I don't actually understand. How does the water coming from the cooling tower cool the refrigerant enough? The water enters the tower at 35 degree C and leaves at 29. I mean 29 is still a high temperature. What is the refrigerant's entering and leaving temperatures in the evaporator?
@MEPAcademy14 күн бұрын
Remember that you need a difference in temperature to move heat from one location to another. The greater the difference or Delta-T, the greater the amount of heat that can be moved. The condensing temperature of the refrigerant in the condenser can vary, but 95F-100F (35C-38C) are good examples for a water-cooled chiller.
@kaan221514 күн бұрын
@@MEPAcademy I don't understand. As far as I know, boiling points of R32 and R410a are about -52 degree C. The temperature of the refrigerant needs to drop to -52 before it leaves the condenser, right? According to the heat transfer principle, how can you do this by using 29-degree air or water? At best, in the condenser, you can drop the temperature of the refrigerant to that of water or air which is 29.
@MEPAcademy14 күн бұрын
@@kaan2215 You're thinking is good, but you're forgetting about the pressure. If you look at a refrigerant chart for say R32 and a condenser pressure of 280 to 320 PSI (19.3 to 22 Bar) you'll get your temperatures. The work of the compressor raises the pressure of the refrigerant in order to make it useful for absorbing the heat from the tower water. Hope that helps.

Hot air passing over an evaporator coil brings the temp of the air down to its dew point , which at that moment pulls the moisture out allowing dry cooler air to continue on in air handlers to reach the comfort zones designated . So the air is conditioned 😳 / condition air So the process we call air-conditioning. As an Hvac-r installer , ive tried to explain this many ways to the new guys , but have just said in the end the coil removes heat / in the absence of heat there is cold 🥶
@MEPAcademy14 күн бұрын
Yes, in this trade we're professional movers. We move heat around. We either add heat or remove heat from the building using refrigerants or with water-based systems like chilled water and heating hot water. You're right cooling is just the science of removing or moving heat from one medium to another. The heat is never lost, it's just moved from one location to another. Welcome to the heat moving business. :)

If the requirements for FPI is 10 FPI, but the actual is 11 FPI what is effect for increasing the FPI?
@MEPAcademy16 күн бұрын
An increase in the FPI can increase the heat transfer area and efficiency but at the expense of static pressure. At some point adding more fins per inch is not beneficial for many reasons including condensate retention, difficulty cleaning between fins, energy impact, higher air side pressure drop. The manufacturers coil selection software should be used to find the best coil for the application.

This is my first time learning about the DOAS system. So basically it is tempering & conditioning the outside air by filtration & use of a heating/cooling coil that is being directed to a space. A fan coil unit or other device is in the space to handle the bulk of the heating/cooling load but the tempered air from the DOAS provides high quality ventilation & reduces the work load of a fan coil, etc. Is my understanding correct on this?
@MEPAcademy17 күн бұрын
The DOAS can be used to handle the latent load, while leaving the sensible load to the terminal units. DOAS units are used in many applications, such as hospitals, Gymnasiums, Schools, Laboratories, Etc. They are used to Comply with ASHRAE 62.1 ventilation requirements, and can be used with energy recovery where applicable. They are commonly used in VRF systems, as most of these Fan Coils can't handle much latent load.
@robertarnold667216 күн бұрын
Ok, got it. The latent load taken care of in the DOAS system is to dehumidify the ventilation air & the terminal units in the space lowers the temperature or increases it therefore taking care of the sensible load. I’m really enjoying this channel !

Fun fact.....Daikin invented R32 and allows the patent to be used by any manufacturer free of charge. Lol....i work for Daikin Applied. After all 50% of 410a is R32. The 50%125 is to allow it to be classified as an A1 refrigerant. The scare tactics for flame propagation into getting people to buy new equipment is laughable. It takes something like 1500°F to ignite A2L refrigerants. Any refrigerant poses some sort of risk....don't take unnecessary risks...and there is nothing to worry about

i have yet to figure out a formula to determine a static pressure for an exhaust system that is not yet in existence. i need to know how to determine what it will be prior to aire flow being possible. can you help with a formula to determine exhaust static pressure for kitchen hood.?
@MEPAcademy20 күн бұрын
You need to determine the total static pressure (TSP), which is the sum of the static pressure losses across each component, such as the exhaust hood, ductwork, filters, dampers, and any other devices in the airflow path. The first step is to determine the airflow requirement for the kitchen exhaust system, which is typically given in cubic feet per minute (CFM). The required CFM depends on the kitchen equipment, cooking type, and hood size. The exhaust hood manufacturer usually provides guidelines for calculating the required CFM. Let’s say the components have the following pressure drops: Exhaust Hood: 0.4 in. w.g. Ductwork (based on length, diameter, velocity): 0.6 in. w.g. Elbows and Transitions: 0.2 in. w.g. Grease Filters: 0.5 in. w.g. Dampers: 0.1 in. w.g. The Total Static Pressure (TSP) = 0.4 + 0.6 + 0.2 + 0.5 + 0.1 = 1.8 in. w.g. Once you have the total static pressure, select an exhaust fan that is rated to deliver the required CFM at that static pressure. Most fan manufacturers provide performance curves that show the fan’s airflow at different static pressures. It's best to hire a professional mechanical engineer to ensure that the design meets all applicable codes and standards, as the system will need to be submitted to the local code authorities for approval and a permit.

Did I understand correctly that static pressure is directly related to CFM? Can I compare it with °C and Kelvin? As one increases, the other also increases. but the values start at a different point and the distances between the values are different? :)
@MEPAcademyАй бұрын
An increase in static pressure in an HVAC system typically results in a decrease in total CFM (cubic feet per minute) of airflow. This occurs because the fan or blower in the system must work harder to overcome the higher resistance caused by the increased static pressure.
