Aiming and pocketing the object ball is my biggest flaw when shooting. Spin, banking (thanks to your vids) and cue placement has improved a lot for me and im happy with my performance in those areas but aiming and actually making the balls is a neverending struggle for me. This vid helps as i have never thought of it as in fractions of the visible ball. Gonna get some practice in using this. Thank you for your vids and looking forward to seeing the rest of them!

This video has made me look at the table in a completely different way, making all kinds of bank shots so much easier. I knew the diamonds were useful in this way but your the only one that I found that made this clear to me in the easiest way possible. Hitting the object ball in the right spot and multi rail banking is my weakness and with this i am able to focus more on my aiming as this has made a huge improvement for me. I just subscibed and gonna check out your ither vids as well. Thank you!

I am confused. At 9:35 you line up 2 to 2. Then cut towards diamond "1". I'm probably wrong, but it seems like your number on the long rail should be 3 and not 2. And you would be cutting towards diamond 2 on the short rail. Is it not a 3 to 3 cutting towards 2?.

Additionally, covering a few shots and my thoughts: @4:47 - The route was almost good. I wouldn't call it 'fancy' ... but, (and I don't think you can really focus in that environment) ... the route was good. However, the trick was to try to avoid any time passing behind other potential blockers (the 10B). IF I read the angle you had correctly, I personally would've used a little outside to go 1 rail, because with inside, it takes a really delicate stroke to not pass the 10b. Why..? Bc to avoid the 10 (on a larger table), you might need to hit it with low-left so that it had no follow when it got to the object ball. Really, on this, the correct shot was to keep it SIMPLE. (Which money makes you do. lol). And that means rolling outside (right) and putting all your focus on the right speed after making the ball into the correct part of the pocket. On thin cut shots, the part of the pocket has a smaller impact on position ... but a half ball? Like this? It's massively important ... and only becomes more important as the hit becomes fuller. One thing people never really think about until they learn to play position better is that just bc you can make the ball at the wrong speed doesn't mean you can at the right speed. ALL the physics change. At a slower speed the cue ball will curve (swerve) more en route, cause more throw, etc. You need to be about 3-4x as good a shot maker to make balls with the correct speed and spin. ;-) @5:20 - That jump shot was ridiculous. I can't do that. You jumped at least half a ball and into a half of a pocket!?? Just ridiculously good shot. @5:50 - I can't quite tell where the balls are on that half of the table ... but I think I would've at least TRIED to cut that in 100 out of 100 times. And probably make it over 90 of them. But if you can play that safety? Reliably? That's impressive. I think it'd be worth setting it up and seeing how many times out of say ... 5 tries you actually accomplish that. Because it's hard to go 4 rails and basically get down at the lower left corner. Just check and see how often you get it down in that low left corner. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe you execute that really well. @6:50 - You have to be absolutely INTOLERANT of that result. There is just no excuse to get on the wrong side of the table. That has to be something that you can just execute 999 out of 1,000 at minimum. Even had it been a tougher shot, you still need to be about 100% on this kind of shot not only to make it but also get position. There's just miles of room, the pockets are forgiving, you have ball in hand, the 7 ball is also hanging in the pocket so it doesn't even matter what angle you get on the 6. The only time it's acceptable to be anything but perfect here?? Is if you're stalling bc you're beating someone too badly. 🙂 @7:53 - The real reason you missed this shot ... is bc you got mediocre position on the 8 (too thin, and you're not comfortable using slow spin bc the cue ball swerves a little) ... and thus you used speed that eliminates that variable and given yourself a shot that was outside the range which you OWN. Of course you make that shot often, but, you should have position that you do not MISS. And that of course, is in addition to all the mental side of the game ... but, had you gotten perfect position the mental side wouldn't have mattered either. Your goal is to get position so good that even stress can't make you miss it. Being good doesn't mean you make great shots ... it means you make the game look easy. Make that your benchmark. Hope I wasn't abrasive or overly critical. And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I of course don't know your game well, and I can't really judge the angles as the camera is level with the table, making it far easier to judge relationships on the bottom half of the table than the top.

You are absolutely correct about keeping position simpler sometime I do over look simplicity because I try a lot of new things especially with the level player around me they are awesome for target 🎯 practice lol for the better players to come! As for the safety play you saw this is a video that I did a long while back when I just started by channel and it’s one in which I can execute time and again! Many would say I am lucky but actually I am not that was very much intended because of knowledge I gained from a another KZbin channel called comp force where he showed me a system for understanding rail reaction off multiple cushion! Now on a slick table it would have been super hard to do that because of the slide but on a club table it’s very doable! You are absolutely correct of the complacency of position and how I landed on the 10 there is something that I see that the pros do a lot and still investigating why they do it which is a video coming up on the Channel soon! There is some debris in areas of my game that I am definitely needing to clean up 🧹 but it kinda challenging when the player I play with lack knowledge and don’t push me plus almost what they play is 8 ball which doesn’t carry a lot of these skills! You analytical skills are off the chart and I deeply appreciate you and I will have to read over your comments again again! You will be duly mentioned in my upcoming videos! I don’t think I can ever beat this comment! Thanks my friend

A pre-shot routine may explain missing shots in general, but it's not why you miss critical shots. Assuming the difficulty is within your skill set to reliably make, yet, you miss it ... there are two things that are unique about the 'money' ball. So, assuming it's a shot where ideas like "I'll overcut it slightly, so that IF I miss, it's at least difficult for my opponent" aren't causing you to miss it (and obviously excluding games like 1P): 1. You're not playing position. This sometimes makes people do things they wouldn't normally do. Sometimes people will hit game ball harder as not only an anxiety release ... but an EXCUSE and to hope it might go in somewhere else. 2. This is really the main reason, and counts for reasons 1 through 100 ... because all others are absolutely SUBORDINATED to this: Pressure. Pressure makes us not believe in ourselves. You've probably wondered if you can trust your aiming method at random, suddenly, right when you need to count on it. Anxiety (making you hit the ball either harder or softer than you should). Trying to do things you wouldn't normally do like _really following through straight._ The reality is, if it's a shot within your repertoire to make ... just TRUST YOURSELF. And use 'cinch' speed. Don't trickle it in, and don't blast it. make the pocket play big without giving the table a chance to roll off. So, while I may not agree with your conclusion, I absolutely agree with your thinking. Because pressure..? Is something absolutely no one talks about ... and it's clearly a massive factor in performance. Absolute TOP talents, like Max Eberle & John Schmidt, both people whom I'm good friends with ... don't always respond well to pressure. Max stops playing relaxed and 'fluid' ... loses all trust in himself and starts lining shit up like he's a beginner. If you saw how he plays when it's just he and I..???? You'd struggle to understand why he's not winning waaaay more tournaments and being staked. John..? Well, he gets upset. Like I used to. John's gone through two phases that I've witnessed: Before people knew who he was, and he didn't know if he was in league with the best players ... everyone rooted for him, and, he didn't have anything to prove or defend. Now? It's as if he's very stressed that people won't respect his talent. When again, if he didn't think about the spectators, and just played like he used to..? He'd be as loved as he was (with a handful of haters like many people have). It's only once people think you're unbeatable that the last bit of haters evaporate, bc people know there's no beating Efren, for example. Anyway, glad to see you're putting yourself out there and trying to share knowledge.

You will never understand the depth of how much this comment means to me! Valuable information here! Didn’t know much about the above players I know of them meaning John Schmidt mr 600 which is no more because Jason Shaw took over and max I have seen him knock a few in my earlier years but was never really drawn to his style! I am in Jamaica that is far away from those culture but i express a lot of disappointment in many players who I could never understand why they are on the high level pro seen but they are called pros! Now when I mention that the pre shot routine is the secret why you miss that was related to those particular shot buts it’s not the only or main reason! Above is the primary reason and I will be making mention of this video in one of my upcoming video I will pin it in the comment as a reply when it’s done! This is hands down one of the best comment I have gotten over the years where you didn’t just take what I said but you added value to what I have said as well! This is what I expect from player to pay attention and share knowledge because as I make my own discoveries I am happy to learn from others which is why my intro is I am an aspiring pro because I know I am not there yet there is much to learn even with the fact that I know a lot! Thank you 🙏 a lot and this is greatly appreciated! Powerful

@@apexpredatorbilliardstraining Thank you. I'm glad. One thing that I've found ... these nuanced observations aren't unique to me. ANY ONE who plays above a particular level (they're able to run racks when they're playing well) has a lot of knowledge. Bc without it, you simply cannot attain that consistency. The trick is getting people to 1. be open about it. 2. Take the time to articulate it. Here's an example of something you can try ... instead of playing to make a ball by hitting "the contact point" (which is itself mythical, because with throw, it's not always the point on the ball farthest from the center of the pocket) ... but instead, to first imagine what the shot looks like when pocketed. As in, playing a 'video clip' of a successful event. It'll help you get a feel for the sound of the ball hitting the pocket, the slight curve off the object ball for instance, and, particularly, a shot that I find it really helps on ... is on a long cut shot ... to play the BILLIARD LINE. Not to play pocketing the ball. But the exact billiard line. If the cue ball is traveling exactly 90° from the pocket, guess what that means?? The object ball had to go in the pocket. Experiment with that for 5 or 10 minutes ... especially on backwards cut shots, or spot shots from the end rail when you're back cutting it ... just PLAYING THE BILLIARD LINE. Eg., in 1P, when people miss it, they often scratch (hitting it too thick). Bc it's hard to aim when you're on the same side of the table as the pocket you're cutting it into. If you'd like, I'll post a video and the time stamp if my explanation isn't clear the next time I find one to refer to. Another couple of observations I've made this year (after 30 years of loving pool) ... 1. WORKING on keeping my head still. 2. Adjusting the height of my head based on the type of shot. 3. Getting my hip away from my stroke. 1. Keeping my head still: I realized (after taking 8 years off and returning to play this week, after losing my good vision in my 40s) ... that my 'site picture' (what I'm looking at) is actually shaking a little bit (my head) as I swing my cue back and forth. Raising up a little bit gives my 'machine' (arm) room to move and disturb the site picture less ... but it takes discipline. I literally am now treating working on keeping my head still like as much of a fundamental to work on as where I hit the cue ball. And, as a result, I'm better able to see what I did ... (as the shot 'unfolds') 2. Adjusting my head height based on the type of shot. On thin cut shots, getting my head low (an inch off my cue) is a must. It's just so much easier to see the EDGE of the object ball. But what about when you're drawing back off of a ball to pocket a 9 (a billiard), or playing an exact billiard line to get safe in 1P, or KICKING ... or BANKING..!? Not only do I think it's easier to RAISE MY HEAD UP until you can see exactly on the rail where you need to hit -- but in careful observations, I see that it's exactly what the best players do, also. And it doesn't take much: I don't mean like Evan Lunde ... it can be as little as raising up a couple of inches. That 2 inches can be the difference between having good perspective vs aiming at an arbitrary point on the rail. And again, don't take my word: Instead of watching the results players get in videos ... _WATCH THE PLAYERS._ It's keen observation that'll let you find patterns in what they do. And since I've thought of this, I've seen that Efren does it, Chohan does it, Alex P does it ... SHANE does it. On all the exact shots I just mentioned. Some players who don't quite do it ... will still get down to their low head height slower. not just dropping into their stance, but slowly lowering as they stroke back and forth, imagining the exact location they have to hit while they have their perspective. Being low gives you more precise feedback on exactly where you're hitting your cue ball. But it makes it harder to precisely visualize how the CB will react off the object ball. So you always need to trade off between these two priorities as each shot's exact requirements dictate. ;-) 3. Get your hip & body away from your stroke. If you're right handed, and you need to lean over the long rail (from the side) to reach a ball ... your right hip could be 2 feet from your stroke arm. Yet, when the table doesn't demand that you give "your machine" room to operate ... you're all but hitting your hip when you swing your arm back and forth. I've even caught my thumb on a belt loop. Turning your head to your left and getting your back leg further away from your stroke arm will give you more room to swing your cue ... and, makes it EASIER to generate power. Often, the reason we spaz out and change on our final stroke is bc we're worried we can't generate enough power. And this is never more true than on the BREAK. In fact .. the break is when you're a little less concerned with #1 and instead focus on #2 and #3: Your head can move a little bit (raise up), because a higher head gives your arm more room to swing, and, lets you follow through whole lot further (look at shanes break: He follows through up to the join of his cue FFS). And, combine that with #3 in which you have slightly more of a baseball stance. Getting your machine away from your body. Those 4 ideas are enough to keep someone busy for a year experimenting with, integrating, and OWNING. Bc you don't know something unless you can do it on COMMAND ... under any amount of pressure. 🙂 Hope you'll take a chance to check out some of the videos I've uploaded also ... they're nothing special, but, they are entertaining. Unfortunately, I have dozens of videos that I've not uploaded. Every single TAR Match in fact ... as I'm friends with the big guy Justin ... I've been meaning to ask for his blessing to upload them all as he's lost interest in pool. Anyway, thanks again for the very kind words.

Your first positional error was from 4 to 5. In that situation you should leave an opposite angle on the 5, so that the cue ball goes to the short rail after contacting the 5-ball. This allows you way higher control for good position on the 6. It's one of the lesson from Efren that I'll never forget. Especially after applying it in practice thousands of times.

Hey Apex, thank you for the information. I'm going to ask a question about the first rail numbering system the rail you are aiming at in order to hit the ball at 42. In the first example your pointer image shows up at just above 15, meaning 18 is the target, but your second is 28, and the green pointer image shows up in near to the same spot. You don't appear to hit the same spot, but it confused me and I had to watch it a few times to get the drift of what you were doing. Thanks again for the info, I'll shoot some practice balls and try this system out.

Hey my friend! Nice to meet you! The CUEBALL ball varies slightly from the object value! The first diamond from the bottom left pocket starts the CUEBALL value at 15 and increases by 5. When it comes to the end rail it increases by 10 hence we say 60 70 and 80… the value 15 I don’t know why it starts like because that’s that’s what I learn many years ago but I assume he math is because compensation for spin is required! Now the object ball value and first contact are the same! It increase by increments of 10 and he rails on both sides ares the same! I did a upgraded version of this video on my 8 foot table see the link below maybe you can get more clarity @ kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqSUnoueos9kmMUsi=Hjt5kBiKMlh0duJm

Apex, love your videos man. I think your channel would grow if you had a taller camera angle so the table can be seen better. Your commentary and analysis is great and helps aspiring players get better!

I like the rule about trying to play safe on both balls if you can't hide the cue ball

We play mostly bank shots in our pool games. I only did it once. Up to that time I think it was around five in a row that I had done on that shot. My buddy was watching, at about number seven he shook his head and said ,"I'm not even going to try". It's the most in a row I've done on any bank shot. Next down is eight in a row on three rails into the side. All the way down to four in a row for two rails into the side. Funny how two rails is so much harder than three or four rails. Other one I couldn't believe was the day I made five 5-rails in a row. I doubt I'll ever match those numbers again, but it's fun to try. To me, bank shots are the most fun kind of pool you can play.@@apexpredatorbilliardstraining
