I love looking at then and now photographs and these are exceptional, brilliantly done.

All those men that gave their lives for so little territory gained it truly was a battle of attrition . All those men never envisioned a war on an industrial scale with the new devasting weapons . Then to think a new world war would break out almost twenty years later as the Germans marcged once again over this land and further . Great video , makes you think of all those men that never made it home . Lest we forget !

God damn this is awesome 😲 Imagine one of these today with modern HD cameras? Why does no-one do this kind of stuff anymore? 😑 I've looked all over youtube for live firing exercises.

Warrior is superbly reliable, but, had BaE carried out the mid life upgrade we so desperately needed, we could have added power elevation and stabilisation to the excellent Rarden and been able to 30mm a lot of those targets rather than hosing them down. "NEVER fly straight and level in the combat zone" they tell you, but our 1st gen turret forces us to stop to fire. Sydney Jary, after watching a demo like this, said that his WW2 anti tank teams would have massacred such easy, slow moving targets! Warrior was designed to carry the infantry to a suitable debus point then 'shoot them in'. It does a great job of that, but, with stab, it would survive better to carry on doing so. The cancelled Warrior CSP turret would have given us all that (no need for the deplorable FRENCH 40mm gun), but we are now left with the hope for Boxer to step in and fill the gap. With the Lance turret it might, but surely we should be building our own AJAX replacement which could do that in our way?

The film is great; the soundtrack is terrible. Put narration instead.

Brilliant, I visited the Somme this year 2022 Mametz wood and the 38th Welsh division was particularly moving for me as a Welsh man. Your video adds a level of realism I’ve not seen in any other videos on the Somme. Least we forget.

I actually prefer this version to the updated one (which is also excellent). I Vow to Thee my Country starting at the Minden Post segment is perfect. It's the 1st of July so I'm back watching again for the umpteenth time

An excellent effort and i have been in almost all those places as well. Just a question over the near last scene claiming to be Gommecourt. This is seemingly taken from the cinema film "the Somme battle" released later that year. Most studies believe that almost all the scenes of actual assault except those by Malin near (but not at) the sunken road mainly of the wretched Lancashire Fusiliers were of practice manouevres. I fear that the Gommecourt clip might be an example of this? With respect...

Brilliant film. John William's "Hymn to the Fallen" (from SPR) is a great track of remembrance, but is American. And WWII. Ralph Vaughan Williams is good (and he served in the British Army, in WWI). Good bit of Elgar, though.

Well, apart from the glaring errors, inaccuracies and falsehoods portrayed around the Beaumont Hamel segment. Rarely have I seen a film with do many inaccurate assertions and misplaced footage. And,before anyone has a go,I work around this area and am one of the owners of the craters.
