Very smart, smooth and quiet but feel the seats could do with the blue stripe previously seen on MMCs.

It certainly was the longest Stagecoach route in Newcastle at the time. Now there's the whopping new 37 route; Whickham View - City Centre - Freeman Hospital - Four Lane Ends - Dudley - Cramlington!

A very irregular route! This has been going since the 70s! Although it was originally numbered just "79" (without the X) until the mid 90s. In the 80s it was operated by lovely Plaxton coaches, under the "Blue Bus Services" brand of Busways.

What a pocket rocket this is! in beautiful scenery! Hats off to the driver for being careful to not go over the umpteen potholes and cracks too harshly (due to the road being in poor state), while going through the empty back roads at speed. Was the reverse and double back due to a wrong turning?
@centraltransportproductions9 күн бұрын
Absolutely! Fantastic, scenic route!! No, the reversing is part of the route, quite similar to service 464, which also has sections of route where it has to reverse...

I used to get the 45 in the 80s (same route then) to visit my cousins in Wideopen (a few miles before the terminus in Dinnington). It was old Leyland Atlanteans then, with 5 speed 'crash' (clutchless) manual gearboxes. Happy days.

It's quite rare they have a double decker on the X82. It's usually an Enviro 300.

I think you got a bit mixed up with the description on this one. It wasn't 'Newcastle - Newcastle RVI' - the RVI is in the city centre and was the 3rd stop on the route (see the white sign on the right at 2:46). *EDIT* : Have now watched the full video. It's Newcastle (Haymarket) - Newcastle General Hospital, which is a different hospital to the RVI. The RVI is in the city centre, whereas the General Hospital is in the Fenham area of Newcastle. The service does call at the RVI (3rd stop, from Haymarket) but the destination is Newcastle General Hospital. After driving through the General Hospital grounds, it then returns by the same route to Newcastle Haymarket Bus Station.

Just discovered you channel and it is mind-bogglingly good! All the Stagecoach (then Busways) routes of my childhood in Newcastle, like the 39/40, 11, X63, 1, etc, etc.... such a blast from the past seeing these routes after many years. I now live down south....... in Durham ha ha ha ha! I have just saved about 10+ hours of your videos in my 'Watch Later' list. Thanks so much! and....... I now live in Sherburn, Durham and I thought "what's the chances he's filmed my now local route - the 204A" - one of the most insignificant routes in the north east, with about 5 passengers per day. And here it is!!! 😄
@centraltransportproductions9 күн бұрын
Thanks for your positive feedback! I can however assure you that the 204 was busier during the times I recorded it, and from what I'm told by drivers who have drove the route it can be a busy little bus on quite a handful of trips...

Yesterday, in Hertfordshire, I was on a bus with a driver learning the route. There are plenty of "landmarks" there but I would find it difficult to remember all the turns on this route.
@centraltransportproductions14 күн бұрын
It's most definitely easier to learn a route if you are familiar with the area.
@creepingjesus510612 күн бұрын
In my truck driving years, I was around this neck of the woods quite often, and I will say, it's a peculiarly difficult area to learn. Nothing's quite where it seems to be, and especially at night it can be quite disorientating.
@centraltransportproductions12 күн бұрын
@@creepingjesus5106 Personally wouldn't like to be driving along a country road in the dark if I hadn't drove it before. Although this route touches close to the Scottish Borders & the roads get more rural the further North you go...
@creepingjesus510612 күн бұрын
@@centraltransportproductions Yeah, being based in E Scotland, I was often over the main routes between Newcastle and Edinburgh, which are intimidating enough because you can't really relax even in good conditions; but I did do farm work that took me into plenty of places that I was sweating, thinking 'no way I'm getting in there!' and checking if I had phone signal to call for help! The funny thing about that whole area, even across to the west, is that it's a network, and eventually the mental map does click into place.
