*We love this 5-burner gas stove top>>>**allmy.tips/rnlo** The three parts are easy to move and clean and give easy access to the stove part for cleaning. I never thought I would find a 30 inch stove top that would accommodate 5 pans/pots, this one does. The middle largest burner is huge and will conquer even the largest pot in your pantry.*

How utterly ABSURD that these people didn't have the professionalism - never mind the common DECENCY - to replace an obviously dangerous appliance that could have proved fatal to anyone using it. If an explosion HAD happened and someone got hurt, or God forbid, killed, those two companies would have had hell to pay!! I hope there was a satisfactory outcome to this outrage!!

Somewhat satisfactory. We never heard back from GE, so basically they did not care. The retailer, PC Richard, finally agreed to take back the GE range and replace it with a model of equal value. I did extensive research and chose a Bosch range. It actually cost a little less and I was credited the difference. The Bosch has a safety feature by which if the flame happens to go out, it will automatically reignite on its own. It was the first thing that I tested, and continue to test periodically. We are very pleased with the Bosch range.

There's no potential explosion here but there obviously is some sort of problem. I don't know how long you've had this unit but you should have made the company that delivered it take it back and if the second unit did the same thing you should have changed models.

Actually Paul, the situation was in fact an explosion waiting to happen. If the flame went out, the gas would continue to fill the room. The only way to turn off the flow of gas was to pass the ignition phase (spark) which would then in turn ignite the unlit gas. If left filling long enough, there definitely was the potential for an explosion. I took the proactive measure of getting rid of the range, despite falling on GE's deaf ears. I now have a Bosch model that has an auto reignite feature - something the GE and all other manufacturers should be forced to have. I also could not have the delivery company take it back as I had the unit for over a year. Based on my research, all of the GE gas models operated like that. They may have updated their features since then, but at the time they did not. This was not the case of a defective unit.

The gas output would never get to a high enough concentration unless you somehow made your house airtight, LP is a bit more dangerous though as it's heavier than NG. Those Bosch auto-ignite systems are their own pain when they fail, if the sensor fails they will never stop clicking. GE hasn't changed their ignition system. I didn't realize it was so old, did you just end up with a check from the warranty company?

I have the same or very similar problem, GE Profile Gas Slide in Range Model PGS975SEM155. If I am using my oven...the burners either will not light or will go out when set to low. I purchased my range from Sears and had a maintenance plan for many (too many) years. They could never fix it. One repairman simply turned up the level of gas going to each burner. This sounds like it is the fix you need seeing it is on one burner only. There is an adjustment located behind the knob. Remove the knob...identify hole at 5 o'clock, with flashlight look inside. You will see an adjustment receptacle which requires a very small allen wrench, 3mm I think..if you are handy you will figure it out. With the flame lit and at the low setting adjust it up and keep testing until it no longer goes out. It will work, however, sometimes you cannot put the flame low enough. But it does solve the flame going out problem. BTW...I don't recommend anything Sears at this time cause I think they will be gone soon. My favorite serviceman warned me of this a couple of years ago. I was also told that the problem is probably that my gas service is not adequate to the appliance so I cannot run the burners and the oven. But seeing you are having the same problem and did not mention the oven I doubt it.

Celeste, the issue is NOT with your gas supply line. It is a GE design flaw that they do not want to admit to nor own up to. I wound up getting rid of my GE and buying a similar Bosch model it worked fine. Despite multiple service attempts from both GE and the retailer, the unit remained a hazard and I no longer wanted to subject myself and my family to a possible gas explosion. The Bosch range has a re-ignition feature. If any of the burners go out for any reason (too low, wind, etc.) the starter will automatically re-ignite until it lights. Therefore no gas can escape. I know it is a lot of money, but your life is worth more. I would strongly suggest getting rid of the GE and get something else instead. Check with your retailer for the feature I described. You would think it would be a mandatory safety feature in the day and age. Good luck.

They will Never replace the stove, because They will Never admit there is a Design Flaw !I suggest you do some research on this model.. start with Consumer Reports. In a stove this modern.. one expects to find a thermocouple which stops the gas flow when the flame goes out. If replacing the entire valve assy, and cleaning the burner and it's piping doesn't fix this. Then it aint fixable. Next.. Consumer Product Safety Commission. I bet you are far from the only one who has had this problem. G.E. what more does one need to know. Great jet engines, scheiss consumer products. Utter Trash.

Of course not Larry. They never offered to replace it, or to try to remedy the problem. They're just an irresponsible corporate entity that only cares about pleasing shareholders. The Bosch that I replaced it with has been fantastic, has more features - including the safety features that don't existent on the GE, plus it cost less than the GE.

Hi David- were they able to fix your burner issue? I ordered PGS930SELSS from PC Penney - thinking about canceling- thanks

No GE did not. I wound up getting rid of it and purchasing a comparably priced/featured Bosch instead. It was actually a little less expensive. Unlike the GE, the Bosch has a safety feature that detects if the flame has gone out and immediately reignites until the flame starts again. We've been vert happy with the range which will be 2 years old. I was never contacted by GE - ever. It was always me who had to call their customer service department and get put on hold for what totaled hours. My conclusion is that they're a company that cares much more about selling than servicing, evidenced by all of the ads you see on TV, print, and the web. Bosch, on the other hand, is more low key in their sales approach, but obviously put more effort into design and customer service.

I own a CGS985. I noticed upon install that GE had a larger gas flange connector than my earlier unit. THIS INDICATES THE NEED FOR MORE GAS AVAILABILITY THAN NORMAL for this high capacity stove to operate normally. My home has had the input pressure from the gas company increased in order to run our emergency gas generator. Therefore I reduced the fitting back down to the normal fitting available from lowes. My point being, I suspect no one warned these many consumers the need for a higher supply of gas. This can be accomplished with a larger gas feed piping or increased pressure. Lack of the correct supply could drastically affect the ability to control the temp of the oven or the stability of the top burners! Sorry I saw his soo late.

Just because the gas connector they provided is larger doesn’t mean the range takes more gas. Standard range flex sizes are 5/8 or 1/2 inch. You clearly do not have any clue on what you are talking about.

I agree. Believe me, I am not finished with either of them yet. I have forwarded a transcript of my emails and documented discussions to the NYS Attorney General and plan to pursue this in court. It will cost both parties a lot more than the cost of replacing the range -- let alone the number of people who I have told about this ordeal. Let's just hope that nobody in my home is physically injured as a result of their faulty product.
