you forgot about one of the most important ones - use left foot braking in awd and fwd cars to get a little oversteer in the corners and try to minimaze using hadbrake in wider turns

I prefer Dirt Rally 1's Championship model. It's more fulfilling to me. Dirt Rally 2's Championship model is more punishing and frustrating - during the race, you don't even know how well you're comparing against the best driver if you aren't high on the rung. Dirt Rally 2's rendering is better, and the VR framerate is more efficient. I think overall though I prefer Dirt Rally 1's driving more, even it is feels a bit more simplistic. I spin out too much in Dirt Rally 2.0 - meaning not often, but enough to screw my standings. You do get Dirt Rally 1's tracks in Dirt Rally 2 as purchasable DLC, so that' s a plus. I just wish I liked its Championship model more. I also wish they wouldn't have cancelled Dirt Rally 3. There are still things about Dirt Rally 1 that tick me off though - the little side bump that inexplicably rolls your car, and the co-driver getting really quiet when your energy is high on a slow turn is a real mood killer.

Really wish you had discussed how the games feel on the sim, that’s the only thing I care about, which one is better from a drivers perspective? I mean, I’d just install 2, but 2 is 110GB and 1 is 40GBz

This video and its comments 4 years later reminds me that when this game was new most people playing were gamers and didnt know what they were doing with a simish rally game. Coming from other more hard core sims dirt is a fun game that is intuitive to drive

Use locking nuts. they won't loosen up. put an angle brace on the shifter and it won't move

Drive slow cars? I did that in DiRT Rally 1, but in 2.0, I was molded in every roll, punched tyre, radiator broken by hitting a rock, and tree I kissed in my Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2. I was forged in critical damages screens and abandoned rallies. But after all that, I can say I learned how to drive that thing, I it wants to throw me off a cliff but I can save it, I will, if I can’t, then bye bye it is. Also I lost focus a lot and don’t hear when the next corner is a right 1

it took me months to get good at Dirt rally, even with a racing wheel. i cant tell you the numbers of times ive crashed and ive wanted to throw my racing wheel out the window, but i persevered and kept trying. and learned the different techniques to be faster.

Back in 2000, NFS Porsche Unleashed required manual shift in a career mode stage: drive, spin 180 between pylons, drive further in reverse, then spin 180 again between another set of pylons. Having seen only stick shifts in real life, I never looked back after learning to drive manual in NFS. One hack was to drive in high gear at low(er) speeds on snow. The car won't accelerate quickly, still had a reasonable speed, and turn without skidding. Won many races in Lan parties.
