@@antoniobattle2036 i’m in Quebec Canada there was a time in the 80’S and 90’S 401 from javelin was very easy to find , even more the 401 from wagoneer, in all I had about 75 of them if not more I was paying 25 to 125 $ Canadian for a complete block and 25 $ more with a transmission. Most of them where rebuild to be installed in JEEP CJ-7 , YJ , TJ . I had also 100’S of 360 and 304 , I did some engines for the drag but most was for the streets and lots of torque in 4X4 . A friend has put a modified 401 in a mini Austin , he was driving from the rear seat .

That's a great looking car! I watched a documentary about the SCCA Trans-Am and became a Javelin fan. I think the 71-74 had nicer proportions than the earlier model. Your car has the most attractive 'face' - the twin recesses, blacked out grille, and logo like the roundel of the French air force. I'm surprised to see it on an AMX instead of an SST. I thought AMX's got a flush grille with steel mesh.
@antoniobattle20362 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct regarding the flush grille on the AMX unfortunately during the restoration l couldn't locate a good steel mesh grille. I did infact find a recessed grille in perfect condition and decided to improvise. It is extremely difficult to locate parts for most AMC Javelins especially the 71&72 models. Overall lm extremely happy with how the restoration project turned out... Thank you for your appreciation of the car it was a grueling long process and cost a pretty penny $$
@ockraz2 жыл бұрын
@@antoniobattle2036 Hi. Thanks for the response. 🙂 I really appreciate your commitment to making your car as original as possible. It's a shame there aren't good reproductions available of those mesh grilles. It doesn't look like a very complicated piece to make. In fact, I did a little research online and I think it was expressly designed with simplicity in mind. I believe Mark Donohue himself insisted the 2nd Gen Javelin have a flush front after he observed that the 1st Gen had aero problems from the recessed grille - much like the '68 Charger had. Chrysler was able to deal with its problem by making a '69 only homologation special using a flat faced grille they borrowed from the Coronet. Originally, my understanding was that, lacking an already available replacement part, the cost conscious AMC just opted to make a wire screen accesory that could be fixed on top of the standard recessed grille. However, I'm not sure now if that was true for all the cars, or if maybe it was just true for the racecars (and perhaps a few early production models). Some sources say it's both, but others claim that the streetcar had a unique "back grille" under the mesh screen made expressly for the AMX. That would make sense considering that the production car had parking lights behind the screen, whereas the Trans-Am car just has metal disks filling the holes where the lights go. All the same, personally, I still prefer the looks of the '71 SST front end to any other Javelin. It's got the parking lights nicely sculpted into the body just below the bumper, and I think all those horizontal lines disappearing into shadows just make the car seem even wider and more imposing. Sure, the grille causes a lot of issues at speeds over 100mph, but nobody should be driving a 50yr old car that fast anyway 😂
