I think most of the Shale came from the Highway construction in the area? Possibly some Hippies set it up as a Joke? - Or maybe it somehow resulted from the arrival of Cornwallis in the 1750s?
@halifaxtrails7 ай бұрын
They were able to determine the stones were placed there quite some time ago, so not set up by hippies or anyone recent. I believe they were able to come to that conclusion by looking at the lichen growth on the stones. I believe the best guess is that it was the late 1700s or early 1800s. The latest theory was that it was a sheep pen. That theory was largely debunked when archaeologists did an X-ray fluorescent scan and found no evidence of livestock ever being there. The odd part is that there are no records of anything being there despite meticulous record-keeping by the British.

One of the very best of Nova Scotia's 'Ocean Playgrounds'. Goes on and on and on, and is wonderful. Nice job of showing it off.

I'm sure the landscape looked very different than this when they were built - could have been farm land at that time!

Could have been, but recent soil analysis suggests no past use for animal husbandry. The mystery endures!

You're really riding at the top of the trees on this one!

Such a fun ride. I went back and forth a few times. Even put my fear of heights aside to lean on the railing for some pics.

Looks like someone had a broken finger in this one! Love this trail! I was thinking if you wanted some company on any of your filming's this year, feel free to reach out! I'd love to do some filming with other locals!
@halifaxtrails2 жыл бұрын
hahah good eye. I took a football off the tip of my finger & couldn't extend it anymore. All good now though! Good idea, I'd enjoy company from fellow creators who know all about having to stop every few minutes to try to get a decent shot! If you're on Twitter that may be the best way to communicate with me (@halifaxtrails). I might start tweeting out plans in advance for anyone who wants to join me.

Hey Greg, where did you enter from? I am leading a hike in a few weeks trying to decide if I will go in from Colin's Rd or Brookline Subdivision
@halifaxtrails2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I went in from Colins Rd. I've yet to check out the Brookline entrance, but hope to soon. This particular trip was mainly to explore the brook. Enjoy your group hike, they're a lucky crew to have the best BMBCL guide possible!

The memories that this canoe trip brings back...Fantastic! Use to do the complete route once a year for 3 years in a row...where Frozen Ocean was always my favourite place. Each time it was always as still as could be and could see directly to the bottom. Thanks for the great adventure! Bruce and Otis

Lots of memories doing this trip as well. One of the most incredible sunsets I've ever seen in my life on Frozen Ocean. The owls, the peacefulness, the worthwhile struggles of portaging and paddling through wind and waves on Kejimkujik Lake. All happy memories for life. Glad it brought back some good ones for you too! Thanks for commenting.

I`m a cyclist and live downtown and this trail is the best and fastest way to Bayers Lake . I plan on riding it to Lunenburg someday , sort of a weekend trip . Great vid .
@halifaxtrails3 жыл бұрын
The rails-to-trails are awesome whether for commuting or for fun. I wish there was some kind of shuttle that ran up and down and take you back from Lunenburg or wherever, instead of always having to backtrack or take 2 cars.
