Nice puffers! Do you think you could sneak a second pea puffer into that 5 gallon? I read they are territorial and need their own space and am using a 5 gallon to learn. I was going to only get one but with how tiny they are I feel like two would be fine. No?

I've had figure 8s, green spotted and even dwarf puffers, and they're great. Bumblebee gobies do well with them, and I also had mollies. Have some moss to float around and molly fry can hide from the puffs. Brackish is pretty fun to do, but some plants don't do too well in them, so it's something you have to play with what does and doesn't work. Makes me want to do brackish again!

How many times per month u have to do water changes? And can u make a video about PH and KH?
@GrowingUpFish19 күн бұрын
Great question! 😊 For most tanks, a weekly water change of around 20-30% keeps things balanced, but it depends on your tank size, stocking level, and plant density. Some low-stocked tanks can go longer, but frequent changes help maintain stable water quality. And yes, a pH and KH video is a great idea! I’d love to dive into how these levels impact fish health and how to manage them with tips for beginners and advanced aquarists. Thanks for the suggestion-stay tuned!

My wife used stratum as in substrate in her 130l tank and it totally crashed the pH and KH.. PH went from 7.4 to 6,, KH to 1 degree. Slowly raising up the KH with crushed coral.. Of course it was our own fault for not reading the pack which says lowers pH..
@GrowingUpFish19 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience! Stratum can definitely have a strong impact on pH and KH, especially in a large setup like your wife’s 130L tank. It’s easy to miss those details on the packaging, but adding crushed coral to buffer the KH is a solid plan to gradually bring stability back. These situations are such good learning moments for all of us in the fishkeeping community. Hope things balance out soon-let us know how it goes!

@GrowingUpFish19 күн бұрын
Hey there, bro! 😊 A believe I have a mix of both. But a King Kong parrot is a bit larger and rounder than the typical parrot cichlid. And yes, you can keep only male parrot fish in your tank, but keep in mind they can get territorial, especially without females around. Make sure to provide plenty of space, hiding spots, and keep an eye on their behavior. Let me know if you have more questions-happy fishkeeping!

For a 200-liter (around 53-gallon) tank, I’d recommend keeping 3-4 parrot fish to ensure they have enough space to swim and grow comfortably. Keep in mind that these fish can get quite large, so maintaining good water quality and providing hiding spots is important. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@GrowingUpFish23 күн бұрын
@@EzhilNilavan-b6r Great question! For a 53-gallon tank with parrot fish, you'll want an internal filter that provides good flow and excellent mechanical and biological filtration. Look for something rated for at least 60-75 gallons to ensure proper filtration. Brands like Fluval, AquaClear, or Eheim have some reliable options. Just make sure the filter is suitable for the size and needs of your fish. If you have any specific brands in mind or other requirements, let me know, and I can help narrow it down!

I've had several power cuts this year from storms and the first thought I always had was about the temperature. Especially for my African Cichlids and glass catfish - I keep them at about 27deg C. (Also, it was winter here and I live in the Mountains. So, each time the power went out I was freaking out, wrapping my tanks in blankets and doonas, keeping track of water temps and when they got down to worrying levels, doing water changes, adding back warmer water (thank goodness I had plenty of hot water in my hot water tank each time!) Thankfully, all my fish survived as well. But I never had to go without power for as long as too days. The longest was 8 hours I think. I REALLY need to get a backup generator! Glad your fish survived too.
@GrowingUpFishАй бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I can totally relate to the stress of worrying about tank temperatures during power outages. It sounds like you handled it like a pro with those blankets and warm water changes - great thinking! I’m glad your African Cichlids and glass catfish made it through okay, especially given the cold mountain conditions. A backup generator is definitely a game changer for peace of mind! It’s something I’ve been considering as well because, like you said, even a few hours without power can feel like forever when you’re trying to keep the water at a stable temperature. Thanks again for watching and sharing your story, and I hope both our fish stay safe in any future storms!

Beautiful fish I am thinking about raising puffers
@GrowingUpFishАй бұрын
Thank you so much! Puffers are amazing fish to raise-they have such unique personalities! If you're thinking about getting into puffers, just remember they need some special care, especially when it comes to their diet and water conditions. For example, my Fahaka Puffer thrives in a spacious tank with a varied diet of snails and shrimp, and I make sure to keep the water clean and slightly brackish for my smaller puffers like the Green Spotted ones. It’s really rewarding, so if you decide to go for it, you'll love watching them grow! Feel free to ask any questions, I’m happy to help!

The best tank mates for parrots are other parrots but obviously you need the tank space for these large cichlids if keeping in a big group.
@GrowingUpFishАй бұрын
Great point! Parrot Cichlids do best with other Parrots, but you’re absolutely right-tank size is key! These fish can get pretty large, so if you plan on keeping a group of them, you'll need plenty of space for them to thrive. A big tank with lots of hiding spots works best to minimize aggression. I’ve found that my Parrots are happiest when they have room to establish their own territories. So, if you’ve got the space, a group of Parrot Cichlids can make for a stunning display! Let me know if you need any tips on tank setup!

I love Parrot Cichlids! I have nine in a 180 gallon shared with clown loaches, tiger barbs and Dennison barbs. I’m trying to get their orange color to become more intense or more red. I’ve fed so many “color enhancing” pellet food brands without success. I prefer sinking pellets to keep the parrots from ingesting air as they eat from the surface. My next to try is Omega One Super Color pellets. In the meantime I’m enjoying watching their fun personalities. Great video content and clever channel name. Keep up the good work, sir! 👍 Looking forward to more videos.

That’s quite a bit of room for them. I know they love all of that space. I’ve been able to use cichlid gold by Hikari to keep their color and enhance their color. But you’re right each one has their own personality and they really do love each other. Thanks so much for the encouragement. Come back and see us to watch more videos. ✌🏾
