Did you notice how a small child hides under Marie's skirt? And doesn't want to leave. But the father finds her and carries her off!

The choreography of the party scene is very complex. It is planned perfectly, with taller dancers playing the parents so the children will look smaller. It's all very charming, very busy, and a wonderful opportunity for the children to perform. And for their parents to buy tickets to the ballet!

Lovely production, everything perfect except it’s the wrong dance of the Sugar Plum fairy for me. Still I did enjoy it a lot, the musicians were particularly fabulous. Thank you for sharing this video.

This NYCB version has been performed since 1954 when it premiered next door at City Center. It has been performed every year at NYCC until NYCB moved to Lincoln Center except for Covid. I've been fortunate enough to have seen it live many times. It's always wonderful.

Growing up in the bay area, went to San Francisco Opera House, George Balanchine version, have seen nutcracker around the world and feel original SF Ballet version the best, with NYC right there, I like that it’s younger children as I was 7 when I saw my first one, and only a couple do mother goose, love it Nothing tops the nutcracker

What the hell is this woke sh*t? Mother Ginger danced by a male? 🤮
@jadedixon36416 күн бұрын
You might want to educate yourself on this a bit. The ballet and this choreography have been around longer than "woke shit." Mother Ginger, at least in this production, is always played by a man on 3 foot stilts with that huge skirt. And he gets hazard pay for the stilts. I'm guessing they always have a man do Mother Ginger because they don't have a female dancer who can get around on stilts with that huge skirt, kind of like how some productions have girls playing soldiers because they don't have enough boys for the part. Do some research before throwing terms like, "woke shit," around. While there are cases where it's a concern, if you overuse the term it loses it's meaning, eventually it becomes a term for something you just don't like.

This would have been a beautiful ballet exce[t for the Franklin Pierce sex offender senanigans in the first dance, with a military twist.Talented women should not have to go through the child abuse scenes to do work for the military, and then have to get a sex offender teacher, with hands-behind-the back. This is how it was back in the PED Bama days.
