What is missing in Professor Matei's brilliant scholarly work is the influence of Disruptive Technologies on when the Captial Order will implement austerity and to what degree, in some instances (i.e. recession or depression); and the influence that an overheated or underperforming economy caused by the speeding up or slowing down of sales has on the adjustments to interest rates. It may have been premature to mention those in her "The Capital Order" book, but they are a "must include" in her next book on Keynesian Economics. Here is a short essay on what I've mentioned here. gusmore-op-eds.blogspot.com/2023/08/the-capital-order-misses-imperative-set.html

Regarding the Moral Order aspects: it's to enough to think of it as a s Judeo-Christian Given, rather - that it is wage suppression applied to Priests -including celibacy - (that's how the church got so rich - no priest families to support), and 'way of life' prescription pressure for lay Catholics by the original Judeo-Christian Church (i.e. the Catholics) so they'll have money to give to the church as alms and so they'll be less of a burden on the church during hard times.

Question for Clara: Since the FED is the primary driver of most foreign economies - it is probably safe to assume that a small % change in interest rates can have unforeseen "blanket" consequences. How can other economies compensate for this problem? Also, the foreign currency swaps needed to trade on the open world market can be very problematic for other countries because of economic inequality. How can we expose these problem areas with some concrete numbers? Saying that a 0.25% change to our currency system will imply a 30% change to another would show a BLARING issue with US dominance and the world system. I'd hope we can try to explain these more thoroughly. For example, the 2018 Lebanese liquidity crisis (?) (Perhaps this was more-so because of the fixed exchange rate)

This was a really great talk! I'm just learning so I'll only remark on what I know about the US economy. People's salaries aren't being adjusted according to inflation. This is the so-called "stag-flation".. pretty much, they're just keeping the money at the top. Plus, the dominant people in the markets are the ones to win on each cycle - which consolidates power at the top on-goingly. I'm pretty sure the worry about people's purchasing power is secondary to the ones adjusting the rates - which, along with the "stag-flation" puts the problem at an insidious level of evil. Because, for whatever reason, the gov't would rather see people suffer. This is a pretty systemic problem in world markets. Why would we question ANY of the positive benefits of austerity? Taxing the upper class should balance out the budget crisis of the current decade.

51:00 - Plenty of examples of this of course, but I think Obamacare is a recent/useful one. We're going to reform private health insurance by...entrenching private health insurance, emphasizing "access" ie opening up new markets/privatization opportunities over, you know, HEALTHCARE lol... A microcosm of the whole thing of course. 50:20 - I think jurist/political theorist Carl Schmitt (political strategist for the nazi party) illuminates an interesting perspective on "normal" to maybe get at this point. Basically he conceived of the 'political' itself in his self-described political theology "The Concept of the Political" as being a foundational friend/enemy distinction, and that the only "principle" of Liberalism (undergirded by capitalism) is precisely to _avoid_ that "political", embracing conflict avoidance and compromise for its own sake, a fundamental _denial_ that 'the political' even exists and simply mediating between two _actually_ political sides (no surprise, aligning far more closely toward the side that benefits its material interests). But to the point here, from this understanding, Schmitt then conceives of the political tactic for the nazi party, which is to exploit such a tendency for Liberal capitulation to gradually accumulate institutional power/alignment over time until passing a threshold where a full takeover cannot be effectively resisted in that Reichstag Fire -> Enabling Act template of emergency "exception", reconceiving the idea of the political "sovereign" from the Hobbesian state leviathan which directly controls the law and is legitimized by the consent of the governed, _instead_ as the entity who is able to decide on the state of _exception_ to that legal superstructure, as this act is inherently defined by its superseding of the law. From stanford philosophy website thing, _Schmitt’s implicit reply to this objection claims that the applicability of legal norms presupposes a general condition of social normality. Legal norms, Schmitt argues, cannot be applied to a chaos. They require a “homogeneous medium.” (PT 13) No legal norm, in Schmitt’s view, can govern an extreme case of emergency or an absolute state of exception. In a completely abnormal situation, the continued application of the law through the normal administrative and judiciary channels is going to lead to haphazard and unpredictable results, while preventing effective action to end the emergency (PT 13; GU 44-114; Scheuerman 1996; Hofmann 2002, 17-33). If the applicability of material legal norms presupposes a condition of normality, Schmitt assumes, a polity must be entitled to decide whether to suspend the application of its law on the ground that the situation is abnormal. Hence Schmitt’s famous definition of sovereignty, according to which the sovereign is he who decides on the state of exception: If there is some person or institution, in a given polity, capable of bringing about a total suspension of the law and then to use extra-legal force to normalize the situation, then that person or institution is the sovereign in that polity (PT 5). Any legal order, Schmitt bluntly concludes, is based on a sovereign decision and not on a legal norm (PT 10, 12-3)_ Conceiving of it this way I think leads to a key aspect that wasn't fully formed in the early 20th century but is (I would say at least) absolutely _vital_ to reinforce the liberal capitalist social order today, which is the opaque yet omnipresent "national security" state which operate covertly and are not only entirely unaccountable to any of the public facing liberal institutions but in fact those institutions are subservient to their sovereign authority. Of course this is the notion of "deep state" (unfortunately and predictably vulgarized by any public discussion of it and usefully so to dismiss any legitimate dissent under the vague category of "conspiracy theory" or whatever, appealing to that liberal sense of "reasonability" for its own sake without any relational context), which enforces a continuity of consensus especially in foreign policy in which they function essentially as the SS 2.0 for transnational corporate/finance capital with "regime change" operations globally toward the Wolfowitz goal of "full spectrum domination". I mean far from hyperbole, post-WWII the CIA not only protected high-level nazi leadership in the ratlines to South America (useful for things like Operation Condor aka the Monroe Doctrine 2.0) put _literal SS_ on the payroll, Allen Dulles infamously having more than a few business/personal relationships with various figures and companies like IG Farben; people like Klaus "butcher of Lyon" Barbie in France/Bolivia, Reinhard Gehlen of the Gehlen Organization, Otto Skorzeny of the Paladin Group who is basically nazi james bond, just to name a few... The apotheosis of "American exceptionalism" as the praetorian guard of capitalism as a machine god, something seemingly absurd/abstract now pretty openly taken seriously in the miasma of public discourse by the same "technocrats" emphasized in this discussion, with notions of omnipotent algorithms and supposed "artificial general intelligence". Most recently with "effective altruism" which these very people proudly and unironically proclaim as "secular Calvinism". Of course, a quick glance behind the thin blood-soaked curtain of the tech "industry", especially in its history with the military industrial complex (with origins in things like the Phoenix Project in Vietnam, IBM's role in providing computational efficiency for the nazi order a precursor along that continuity) and its forward facing ideological veil of altruism reveals the entire thing to be nothing more than a mechanical turk (seemingly consciously winked at with Amazon's labor arbitrage service of the same name) which all serve to merely reinforce the same social order and in effect lead us to a thanatos embrace toward _"the common ruin of the contending classes."_ _"Fascism is a false revolution. It makes a revolutionary appeal without making an actual revolution. It propagates the widely proclaimed New Order while serving the same old moneyed interests."_ - obligatory Michael Parenti Actually, typing this screed of consciousness as I watch this, at 1:12:30 Clara essentially says all this more or less ha, Keynesianism as the exception which defines the contours of "normal". A macro view of US empire essentially reveals that a far more narrow _military_ Keynesianism is adhered to dogmatically of course, I would imagine since military spending allows for investment into technology/research that can be insulated from spilling over toward any raising of the standard of living for workers or any notion of the public in general. _"The executive of the modern state is but a committee for managing the common affairs of the whole bourgeoisie"_ and all that jazz. Anyway, I'll shut up, this was great, Clara is great, and uh...pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will...or something. Thanks for putting this online! _"Hegel remarks somewhere that all great world-historic facts and personages appear, so to speak, twice. He forgot to add: the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce."_

In Brazil, the austerity adopted after the 2016 coup crushes the miserable and produces a sense of sadistic relief in the middle class. Even having lost money with the forced recession, members of the middle class celebrate the fact that poor Brazilians have stopped going to shopping malls and traveling by plane.

Very succinctly explained. Very powerful ideas. ALso, why do "Generally Accepted Accounting Principles" COMPLETELY ignore/occlude straight wage-payroll expense? From time immemorial "the income statement" has never included LABOR EXPENSE! A most natural item,.....you'd think........capitalism is very very cunning.

Where is John McWhorter. Woke Racism is a book that should be reviewed. I also recommend James Lindsay amd Helen Pluckrose to reflect on what has happened to Academia over tge last 35 years for Hoax studies and tge book Cynical Theories. Read the book Woke Racism. It calls into question weak things like Critical Race Theory and other neo-marxist ideologies that generate revisionist history. Proceed with caution.
