i did one years ago , on a 62 pickup, with a mainshaft and small parts kit i got from another company located in new jersey, in howell township, that was also called the jeepsterman. i had the ten dollar pickup truck service manual, and once i figured out that the special took needed could be substituted with a piece of 3/4 inch wooden dowel, i was good to go,. i knew the guy who had done the prior rebuild and he left out a spacer, or two, so after i got done it shifted smooth as silk

Is it REALLY a Willys "GPV" or a FORD "GPV"??? My bud is a "GPV" nut and owns 40-some and he owns the ORIGINAL prototype style "Vee-Grilled" Chrysler-built (inline 6 engine) version thru the 1958 Willys civilian models. The Mexican sheet metal isn't correct for ANY model he says... BTW- GPV=General Purpose Vehicle shortened to "Geep" by the 1938 SEGAR Popeye cartoon. Sheet metal for WWII "Jeeps" was made by more than a dozen manufacturers, and engines and drivelines by five or six. Stevens Firearms made more Jeep axles than all other companies combined.

good info but ther is an easier way.... pop distributor cap off and mark the side of housing where rotor is pointing. put cap back on and trace the wire that lines up with the housing mark to it's plug and note which cylinder..eg number 3...remove distributor and install the new one (it can only go in one way)...rotor will now be pointing to previously marked plug/cylinder...eg number 3...rewire cap counterclockwise 1-3-4-2 using your known marked plug wire as a starting point. Start jeep..set idle to 700rpm...turn distributor until maximum rpm. set idle back down to 700rpm...back distributor off util it drops to 600rpm...tightnen bolt...no need to find TDC#1 or timing mark or use a timing light...about 15 mins.

According to my father he bought 4 boxes for the wood at a surplus auction. And inside was a complete Jeep. That was in the early 50's. By the time I was born (1959) him and his friends trashed it on Denman mountain Grahamsville NY. All the trails to the blueberries was put in by him.
