Look at the inside of each of those holsters there is a protrusion which secures the weapon as part of the retention system that is between the trigger and the trigger guard with no safety on the standard P320 there is a possibility that this protrusion could engage the trigger in such a manner to cause a discharge. Not a problem with the weapon or the holster just the combination of the two. I noticed this first with the SERPA and my M18 that protrusion was up against the trigger. While my M18 has a safety I still wasn’t completely comfortable with that so I went a different direction. Anyway just an observation.

The Sig Sauer P320's design raises serious safety concerns that warrant a recall! This pistol can discharge without a trigger pull, potentially even with the trigger and trigger bar removed. The lack of a physical sear block is a critical flaw. Here's why: * Unrestricted Sear: The sear, which releases the firing pin, has no physical barrier to prevent its movement. It relies solely on friction and springs, making it vulnerable to inertia and vibration. * Ineffective Safety: The factory safety only interacts with the trigger bar, not the sear itself, leaving the sear susceptible to unintended movement. * Minimal Sear Engagement: The sear's contact with the firing pin is minimal, increasing the risk of accidental discharge. * Vulnerable Firing Pin Block: While a firing pin block exists, it's easily overcome with minimal movement no where even close to being fully depressed. Its design, moving in the same parallel, direction as the sear, makes it susceptible to the same inertia and vibration that could dislodge the sear. * Manufacturer Admission: Sig Sauer's admission in the Jeff Bagnell trials confirms the firearm's vulnerability to vibration-induced malfunctions. The P320's lack of a traditional firing pin plunger, which always operates opposite of the sear movement, further exacerbates this issue. Its current design fundamentally compromises the firearm's safety, potentially leading to unintentional discharges.

Generally the 320 isn’t super appealing to me but I did buy the AXG Legion and it’s among my favorite pistols that I own. It’s up there with my Staccato in a lot of ways. The only Glock I care for is my Agency build which cost way more than it’s worth. I conceal carry my Glock but the Staccato and Sig are for OWB duty only and vehicle concealed carry. Also got an additional 320 FCU for my Flux Raider and that’s amazing too. I love variety and when you look at guns on the market today it’s hard to avoid Sig or the 320 specifically. I figured I had to try one eventually. I’m not 100% confident in its safety… and I wish I was because I absolutely love how it handles and shoots. But I’ll always have that little bit of doubt in its safety because of the controversy.
I have had a P320c Pro for a few years. Thousands of rounds through it. It has not gone bang by itself. I have carried it. It is a fat gun. Thats my only issue with it. It is a chunk in your side. Mine has the flat trigger. I pretty much figured that the 320c is fine.

Institutions are slow to change. They never seem to just flat out jump into a big change. It's always a slow half assed transfers of philosophy and equipment. Since the Glock was basically the LEO gun of choice for decades, many LEOs felt a safety would get them killed in the streets (meaning that they will forget to remove the safety when they must shoot a suspect). Despite the fact that previous to the Glock, the gun of choice for America's PDs were firearms like the Beretta 92fs and 1911s that had manual safeties. But the cops who came from the Glock era are refusing to learn and use manual safeties today. We are starting to see a resurgence in manual safeties.

Another officer, in La Grange, Texas, was shot by his P320, possibly just after this video posted. One report says first responders found his handgun still latched into his retention holster. If you still have faith in the P320's safety, chamber a round, keep the gun pointed in a safe direction, and wiggle the slide on the frame. You are not just wiggling the slide, you are also wiggling the frame mounted trigger against the slide mounted striker sear. The striker is at full cock held by a light single action sear. Dry fire the P320 and note the rear of the slide moves vertically. Chamber another round, keep the gun pointed in a safe direction, and lift the rear of the slide. You are applying a force to separate the sear engagement. You're pulling the trigger part of the sear down from the striker. That's how the P320 naturally discharges. The frame mounted part of the sear is pulled down from the striker by the trigger. The striker block is a light piece of metal with rounded edges, held into place to stop the striker by a single coil hair spring. It's just my opinion, but I worry there's a way the striker can bounce past the block. When I bought my P320, Sig marketing material still said the striker wasn't fully cocked in battery. That's not true. Except for the striker block, a P320 with a round chambered isn't much different from a Colt SAA carried hammer back. Please don't do that! Please consider design vulnerabilities in any firearm, respect them all, and keep faithful to Cooper's four rules. I am not queasy about loaded guns and EDC. My current setup is a compact 1911 with a Swartz firing pin block. I appendix carry in a quality holster in Condition 1. Please don't do that without training from a competent instructor, practice, and a blood oath (yours) to discipline.

Yours seems the most intelligent comment I’ve heard in the thousands I’ve read. I’m not at all a gunsmith but looking at the tolerances, the size of the parts and the amount of play…even I had wondered about what you said. Even aside from that, carrying that gun chambered without a manual safety is very much as you say…dangerous. I have likened it to carrying a 1911 cocked but not locked…and it very much is. To show you how dumb I am though, I have a question: Does the use of manual safety override the problem as you see it? Thank you.
@johnnyragadoo2414Ай бұрын
@@rpmorrisjr I don't know from anything I've personally observed. There was a Marine cleared of negligent discharge. He was at his post when the P320 discharged. The investigation found he had not mishandled the gun and the safety on his military P320 was engaged at the time of the discharge. You can find that report by searching Google for "Handgun/Rifle/M-18, Event # 561138". The conclusion of the report includes the statement, "After reviewing the security camera video footage, the mishap investigator concluded that P1 did not mishandle the weapon at anytime while on duty at Gate 1 prior to the weapon discharging. From the evidence and statements from the persons involved, it is apparent that the weapon fired while on safe and secured in the holster." Most safeties fail to provide the absolute guarantee of an empty chamber, and that's OK. The point is to stack the deck far enough that in a practical sense the gun won't misbehave under proper and respectful handling. For instance, I like my 1911s and their safeties. Forget tradition and two world wars, I can take the gun down to individual pieces. Safety components are large items. The most critical thing about a 1911 thumb safety, in my unschooled Kentucky windage analysis, is the clearance between the trigger sear and the pad on the thumb safety blocking sear movement. That clearance must be less than the travel required for the sear to release, which sounds like a bad thing to have to trust. But you can assemble the gun without the grip safety and check that clearance yourself, and you can test it by pulling the trigger with the safety engaged (gun cleared, please). I don't have to trust unverified operation. Round in the chamber, hammer back, safety on, appendix carry, all perfectly fine. The gun is mechanically safe and I verified that. If I handle it properly, I'm not putting myself or others at risk. I'm not a gunsmith or a mechanical engineer. My only credentials with firearms are lifelong exposure to them, many years of peacefully carrying one, and zero unintended discharges. On that last point, I must remain humble. I'm human and can make mistakes. Be safe!

Its all training. When Glocks first came out in the 90's to replace revolvers there where multiple "accidental discharges" with the guns "going off on their own". (in Philly alone we had 20 in less then 6 months). Problem was there was zero training for handling the firearm and the revolver draw with a heavy trigger was ingrained in the officers vs the Glocks. (guess everyone commenting below was to young to remember all the bad press, thank god Glocks didnt have to deal with the internet, instead Glock just paid to have their bad press removed from newspapers and television reports, now a days it would have been a witch hunt for sure).

True, but everyone forgets that there was a change in technology going from a revolver to a semi auto. But going from Glock to Sig? What changed? Semi auto vs semi auto, no difference in tech. Only thing that changed was the gun.
@jf30654 ай бұрын
@@patrickcarcamo622 the lack of the trigger safety is the big difference, ive seen people pull glocks out of their holster with the finger riding the side of the trigger (not in the trigger itself but the side edge). And the Sig does not have that to prevent an actual pull like the Glock trigger safety does. (if Sig implemented this like every other manufacturer you wouldnt have this issue). Again its training, the military does not have discharge issues as giant majority going in is pretty much learning to shoot their first handgun ever on the Sig, and because of that learn the do's and dont's vs the police departments that have always used Glocks, but made the switch to Sigs to officers who have always had a specific way they would ride the trigger while drawing from their holsters. (another issue is the holsters types, some holsters have more snag issues, which again, the trigger safety on the glock prevents). If people are worried about this there are plenty of aftermarket kits available from just installing a standard thumb safety like the m17/m18 have to a trigger safety like Agency Arms has for example. Or just learn proper holster discipline. (never heard of competition shooter having a accidental discharge with a P320 because they practice holstering techniques over and over again.

@@patrickcarcamo622mechanically the P320 is quite a bit different from the Glock. Technology wise, it’s actually a modular pistol… The fcu isn’t part of the frame and is self contained. As for safety issues, the drop safe problem was resolved awhile ago and no recent models have had it. The holster discharge issue isn’t a prominent problem that anyone has been able to replicate. There’s half a million in military service and millions owned by civilians/LE over roughly half a decade and there’s a little over a few dozen or so reports and many have no proof it wasn’t actually a ND… I’ve only been able to find 2 reports showing the user absolutely wasn’t messing with the gun and the holster was impacted with no way to see if anything was in the trigger guard. I have tried and tried to get mine to release the striker without touching the trigger and I can’t. I’ve smacked it while twisting and trying to pry the slide from the frame and visa versa. I’m not saying it’s impossible but as time goes on it’s proving to be an exceedingly rare occurrence most p320 owners will never run into. I haven’t found a single report of this happening with a iwb holster either.

@@xi-deadshot-ix5838 None of that changes how the gun is handled. The Sig has a partially cocked striker, while the Glock does not. In other words, the Sig is "closer" to a firing condition. If it has such a delicate trigger, it has no place in duty work. CC is a lot different than police work. Military dosen't count due to manual safeties. CC mostly don't open carry, so their gun is more protected. How often do CC's bang their pistols around on a daily basis compared to police? I have a retired service pistol and a CC pistol. Excellent review and analysis. I’m not a fan of the P320, I think the quality control has had some issues. When they first came out I saw them on my national guard deployment, and they had trouble feeding the ammo for their qual. When I got back home to my state trooper job I heard agencies were telling guys to keep the slide back for 2 weeks when off duty to get the spring broken in. My first qual with it, I was helping coach on the range, not a one could make it through a qual without some malfunction. However I never saw an M17 have a problem after that. So I think they had quality control issues, at least at the beginning. I agree the adding trigger safeties would be the best solution for most of the NDs being reported. As far as Safariland goes they had a couple of decades being the cock of the walk and didn’t spend that time refining and fixing flaws. I’ve had too many for training that had rocks and gravel still in them; I stopped using them in 2020.
