The "every war" part skips over the War of 1812, Spanish-American War, and the Korean War. But I get why they only showed the ones most people would know about that (especially back then when the movie was made)

This is not how it works. Any decent school will know about a gifted child and have a plan to meet their needs before the first day.

We have a friend who has a kid like this in public school. They keep trying to get the school to let her skip a grad or two but they refused saying, "She can help the other students keep up." Typical liberal policy; only equal outcome tolerated.

gifted yes genius no. people must understand, the brain is miraculous, for some 'gifted' people such calculations are as easy as looking at colors on a wall. its not a task as it is just the brains ability to function fluently in that area. same as some people can paint and draw at an astonishing level of precision and detail not because they trained but rather their default level of drawing is simply more accurate than others. and in all of these super gifts we also must realize that it often comes at a cost. super in one area, but heavily lacking in another. Autistic people are much like this. Societal norms see's them as abnormal when in fact they are of a kind. and where they lack, they gain tremendously with other gifts. It should be noted that in the past decade due to the now known facts of Austism and their abilities, many hi tech companies have specifically sought after autistic people for their unique gifts.

When i was a kid, that was the early 80s in France so hold on to your chairs. I had a math exam. It was one of the two most important math exams of the school year and lasted 90 minutes. I entered the room started the exam with all the students. 15 minutes later the teacher slapped me on the head because i was playing with my pen drawing silly stuff on a piece of paper (quietly without bothering anyone) and yelled at me to get back to work. I told the teacher i was done with the exam, and she yelled at me to not answer back and do the test. I repeated quietly that was done with it and not to slap me on the head again. She slapped me on the face and sent me to the Dean. The dean was a good person, scary but fair and she went back to the room with me and asked the teacher what was going on. The teacher explained that i had been disrespectful and i said that i had just told her that i was done with the exam. The dean asked her if i checked if i was done or not. The teacher had to grade my paper right there on the spot in front of the dean and i scored an A+ which means 100% correct. The teacher had the nerve to say that i must have cheated, to which i said Math is the one thing you can't cheat and to make me do any other test. The Dean later that day asked the teacher to prepare another test equally difficult for me the next day. The teacher agreed. The next day i had to go to school extra early to do the test. My parents who were poor immigrants who didn't speak french too well had to be there but my father had to work and couldn't make it but my mother went. (both my parents were angry at me because i had gotten myself into trouble with my school). So i sat down with the math teacher, the Dean, my mother and one more person i didn't know. The teacher gave me the paper and told me condescendingly "Vas-y Einstein, epate-nous" (Go ahead Einstein, show us what you got", i was 10. I started at 8am and finished at 8:13 exactly. Meanwhile the Dean had calmly explained my mother that i was not at all in trouble and that they just wanted to check something. I put my pen down and looked straight at the teacher and said "i'm done with it, you made it more difficult than yesterdays' test with more problems to solve". The Dean asked the other person (who was actually a math teacher) to grade my test and i got another A+. My regular math teacher Mrs David Schuler (now it makes sense i was the son of arab immigrants from the Middle East) double checked the grading and had to agree with my A+. The Dean explained to my mother what happened and that i was a really smart kid. My mother told me something in Arabic and asked me to translate it to Mrs Schuler so i did "If i didn't have kids to look after i would slap you on the head like you slapped my son for no reason, but if you do it again i will be hanging from a rope for murder" . The Dean Mrs Bertrand said to my mother "You won't have to because Mrs Schuler is no longer working here and this is our new math teacher, Mr Gaillard" and asked me if i could translate to her. I told her that she had problem to speak but no problems to understand and that she was very grateful already. The Dean then told me to take the day off and think about maybe going to a school for gifted kids like me. I told them that i didn't want to skip school and didn't want to go to another school as i had my friends here and it was close to home and my parents could not afford a private school. This Dean and I have remained friends to this day, she is an elderly lady and I visit her or contact her at every given occasio9n, her kids and grand kids are like family to me. We are 7 children in my family, i had a good career and now live peacefully in Japan with my wife, my sisters are Lawyer, Doctor, Engineer, and my brothers are business owners and veterinarian. Every year we send a new years greeting card to Mrs Schuler to remind her of how well we are doing. She changed addresses 6 times and she never missed a letter. She also knows that when she is on her deathbed i will visit her to remind her of the day she slapped me on the head twice for being smarter than her and to remind her that i have done so much better than being a math teacher in a poor school in a poor town mistreating poor kids with parents who couldn't really understand what was going on.

the problem with these type of people is that it was a genetic lottery win and nothing todo with skill or perseverance, most end up being no nothings when they realize their others just as gifted if not more.
