I did some of the trails in Lithgow in a locked Patrol GU a few years back. The camera doesn't do justice to how steep the trails actually are there. Looks like the grenadier handled it well!

Wow - it's so good to see you taking this vehicle on terrain its been designed for. Looks like both you and your Grenadier handled the challenges with aplomb. Well filmed and produced too. I'm considering retiring our old R51 in the next few years and looking seriously at a Grenadier. Ours has been through some incredible terrain and kept our family safe over many years of exploring and camping. Good thing about an older car of course, is you're not so precious with it. However, it is getting long in the tooth (like its owner) and I want a new toy! Would love to do some training with these guys - they have a great reputation and that is gorgeous country around there. Cheers from Sydney and thanks Michael - David

@GrenadierMichael Indeed. As you well know, building such proficiency will cost a few scars here and there, but it's a small price, depending on the scars of course, but you and I are not the GoPro + beers hero types! Yes, I do enjoy your videos and appreciate the time and effort you put into them. Really makes me want to throw a tent in our old fourby and head to a low-range escape from the big smoke! How did you find the Grenadier, especially the lump in the foot well.
@GrenadierMichael2 ай бұрын
A quick update on my impressions after reaching 20,000km in my Trialmaster Utility Wagon, having done a mix of daily driving, 4WD day trips and a recent 6000km adventure through outback NSW, QLD, and SA. Average fuel consumption (diesel) 11.7 L/100km (no towing). Very comfortable driving position, even when spending all day at the wheel. I have no issues with the steering or the footrest. Love the powertrain. The engine provides more than adequate grunt, and the gearbox works seamlessly. I like the way it automatically downshifts when you brake on descents, and having 8 gears to play with in low range gives you a lot of flexibility. I regard it as a blessing that mine is not equipped with the latest ADAS systems, but I appreciate the ESC which has helped me out a few times on fast gravel roads. In off-road situations, the ESC OFF-ROAD mode works well, but I'm in the habit of turning ESC off completely when driving in sand. I always lock the centre diff as soon as I go off-road. I've had the occasional issue with the transfer case not wanting to shift back out of low when I’ve been doing long stretches of demanding off-road work, especially when the rear and front diff locks have been used, but I’m having this problem less frequently now, possibly because I’ve got into the habit of unlocking the centre diff before moving back to high range. Some people find the controls somewhat bewildering when they first get into the driver’s seat. After some time at the wheel you get used to where everything is. I can now lock the rear and front diffs and engage hill descent control without hunting for the switches. Likewise I’ve learnt the location of the auxiliary switches that I use for the UHF, fridge, lightbar, camping lights etc. I’ve connected a 2000W inverter (and some other accessories) directly to the auxiliary battery, and I’ve added a CTEK D250SE for solar input. My auto electrician found the Grenadier very easy to work on. More details of my build can be found here … drive.google.com/file/d/1RAApk7U3saukCK-YlcEnn0ipF-JMgJ3m/view?usp=drivesdk Things I’d change ?? Redesign the silly panic button on the key that’s way too easy to set off accidentally. Change the head unit software so that the rear view camera still works (without having to manually turn it on) in Off-road mode. I’m very much looking forward to being able to use Apple CarPlay for navigation, and I’m told that the update is not too far off. Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase. The vehicle is very solidly built, and it’s very capable without the need for aftermarket modification. Mine has taken a few big hits underneath, and the paintwork is no longer perfect, but that’s what I signed up for. You can see some of my adventures here … kzbin.info/aero/PLUHN--CsypwVXNOI_V0YiUIvxiMSenLXb

Thanks for sharing, love to see Ineos Grenadier footage. Simmo is Bathurst based as we are. Ahe, love the desert as well. Many many years ago (2002) on a tag along I was instructed to utilise low range. Every single attempt failed, torque just digging down not driving forward. (Ours was Auto) Companion was instructed same in their vehicle, like me failed every attempt. (Manual) I knew what was wrong, so once the group drove off, I selected high range 1st gear and went straight over, taking a photograph of the convoy driving off to the west to prove we did it. Since that day, I've always concurred big red in high range. Rarely use low on any sand driving as torque delivery loves to dig, not drive. Yes, I do lower pressures, mostly 15 front, 18 rear on sand, go down to 12 on occasions to utilise lowrange when required, Nolan Brooke etc. deep water, soft sand.

Top stuff permits should be allowed to see this awesome region and its history and Not only responsible people get to see it the money will go to maintain the park and boost the economy that's hanging on by a thin thread . There's more to this region then what is spoken about or documented I've grown up for 46 years exploring the region and its nooks and crannys and there's more hidden history then people know of I spent many of weekends with dad on Neville and Val Lang's property bindook and exploring the region before Australian's were locked out of Australia. Let's all work towards a better system were we can enjoy our country without the minority spoiling it for the rest . The (rest) aka us should not be punished.

Ive been on that road too . Me and a mate bushwalked from Katoomba out narrow neck and up the Cowmung river to Yerranderie back in 1997 i think it was . anyway there were mega bushfires out that way and NSW that year and we got picked up by the Bush Firies on the wild dogs ridge and they took us to Yerranderie . the next day the firies evacuated us , gave us a lift to picton through there .wow it was spectacular ! and so beautiful the scenery was amazing ! the cliffs were gigantic compared to any others I have seen around the Blue Mountains I have explored much of the Blue mtns as I was a climbing abseiling bushwalking canyoning and wilderness survival guide in the Mtns for about ten years so got to have a pretty good look around ant there is some of the most spectacular cliffs in the Mtns but it is hard to judge because all of the blue mtns is beautiful and spectacular . I to do feel very privileged i got to travel through that road and so glad I got to see that part of the country . Was a great adventure .

I can remember, as a very young boy (born 1941), camping at the NRMA camp ground in Burragorang Valley. The trip down the pass into the valley was a bit of a test for the old cars - no disk brakes and good radiators in those days. Because the war was still being held, petrol was rationed, so the engines were warmed up on petrol, then swung over to run on kerosene for the trip. The last trip to Burragorang was a family day trip in the late 1940s. Into the 1950s I participated in a couple of multi-day hikes along the Coxs River from Katoomba before the whole area was cleared of trees and shut off to everyone. There's a lot of good memories there, and only a few black and white Box Brownie photos as a record. Thanks for the video.

@@GrenadierMichael, the whole direction of recovery gear lately has been to reduce any heavy objects. A drag chain is exactly that, to be used to drag objects off the tracks. i find it very weird that they would be teaching to use one as a common item
