Those leaves are sauna whisks. You wet them and use them in sauna to slap yourself or another person as a kind of massage to promote blood circulation.

Tateba is excellent and I'm keen to try the others next time I go to Osaka. Fureai Onsen Yata is also a great, tattoo-friendly facility in the city.

No, but only you can decide whether you'll get enough out of the trip to make it worthwhile. Your kids definitely won't remember it. I waited until my son was about five before taking him, and even then I wound up carrying him a lot. We've done a few family trips since then and the older he gets (he's ten now) the more fun it becomes!

Did you just take a ferry back to the start? I know you said you were going to hangout at the last stop but it would be good to know how you got back to Hiroshima? I am assuming there is a bus station/route back once you drop off your bike.
@Kampai_Cam

Heya! I actually continued on. I stayed overnight in Imabari then got a train to Okayama. I'm not too sure about ferries from Imabari but it looks like there are buses back to Onomichi. Also looks like you could get the train to Matsuyama then get a ferry to Hiroshima if that's where you're headed. You'd definitely be able to find out the best options from tourist info services in either Onomichi or Imabari.

@Kampai_Cam 2 ай бұрын
Hey there sorry for the slow reply. I did it comfortably in a morning. The trail is well maintained and easy to follow but if you're worried find the trail in a hiking app or get a physical map from an info centre so you can crosscheck if you need to. Not sure on the likelihood of snakes but I didn't come across any...

@@pimpagasuntornketuj3771 I decided not to do it as I wasn't 100% sure about it, so instead of going all the way around the crater I went up to one peak then back down the way I came and up to the other. Both views are pretty incredible so it felt like a good compromise.

@@Kampai_Cam Many Thanks. I am thinking to do the same way as you, so may i please confirm my understanding that after reaching Matae, then you went to the West Peak around 20 mins and walked down to Matae and then went to the East Peak around 20 mins and walked down to Matae and then walk back to the same way to the main head trail where you started right?

great video, you wouldn't say that this vid was made by a small channel cause it was so well done the information given was great and very well paced. the only minor gripes i can have with this video is the overuse of (AI) art pieces instead of just showing a bit more of the trail (mainly at the start of the video) and the music beeing right on the edge of just a bit to loud, but your voice is very clear so this wasn't much of a problem. keep up the great work!

Are there lots of bathrooms or conbini with bathrooms on the route?

The route is well set up for cyclists so there are regular "cycle oasis" stops with bathrooms. More info here: cycling-ehime.com/en/article/7413/. Conbinis are much more sporadic, although there are a few.

Are you allowed to go into the cold bath after being in the onsen? I wasnt to sure from the video.
@Kampai_Cam
@Kampai_Cam 4 ай бұрын
For sure! The main thing to bear in mind is that you need to rinse yourself down (to get the sweat off) if you've used the sauna. I usually just use one of the buckets next to the bath and splash a few scoops over myself while crouching down next to the bath. There are usually showers too or you could go over to one of the washing stalls. The cold bath is one of the best things about any bathhouse so be sure to use it!

Why aren’t tourists allowed to wear tattoos before they enter an onsen?
@Kampai_Cam
@Kampai_Cam 4 ай бұрын
The short answer is that tattoos are banned because they've been historically seen as a yakuza thing. Even though a tourist clearly isn't going to be a member of a Japanese gang, as is so often the way in Japan, a rule's a rule and that's the end of it. Thankfully there are more tattoo-friendly places than there used to be, but it's still changing very slowly :\

I would definitely do the Nakadake/Takadake loop trail if you can. The scenery is out of this world! There are lots of options for the route you take, but you'll need at least three hours.
