Nice video man- you show the scenery so nicely. About how long do you suppose the hike up to the summit of Long Pond mountain and back is? I'm going up there next week with a friend and i'm wondering if we'll take the time to do that hike or not. Thanks for sharing, guy.

I just recently started watching your videos, and I love them. I'm in my first year of solo camping / backpacking. I'd really like to do a 3 day, 2 night trip in St Regis canoe wilderness, working in a trip to the fire tower and some brook trout fishing at the end of April or beginning of May in '25. Is there a beginning canoe you'd recommend the most? Or should I just use the canoe outfitters for my first couple trips. Ideally, I'd like a 2 seater that I could still portage alone.
@AdirondackAdventures9 күн бұрын
Welcome to the channel! I'm glad you're getting something out of the videos. Your question about a canoe recommendation is tough without knowing more about what you intend to do with the boat. A visit to a canoe outfitter would be useful none the less. Saint Regis Outfitters in Saranac Lake is very helpful and often has really good used boats for sale. Check them out!

Great trip! I love seeing you setting an example with PFD's. I wear mine all the time, regardless of air/water temperature. I also use it to hold my phone/camera though. My group completed the same trip from Site 4 on St Regis Pond a couple years ago, but we didn't cram into one canoe! I wish I had video from the campfire chat the evening before when I said we should be on the water by 7 AM so we were not too late getting back. The look on some of the "newbie" faces when I told them of our long day was priceless! Such a good time, though! My favorite part of the paddle was Bog Pond, with the narrow, twisty sections. It's definitely a tricky takeout at the dock by the trailhead! I'm jealous of the solitude you had on the summit. We were the only paddlers that day but it was mid-summer with perhaps 20 or 30 people that hiked in from Keese Mill. We finished with a swim off the rocks at Site 6 and some killer hamburgers for dinner. Site 4 added a couple miles to the trip since we were on the "wrong" end of the lake. Certainly a long day, but worth every minute, every step, and every stroke.

I camped at #1 two weeks ago (mid August) - past it by from first inspection due to large rocks blocking the steep entry trail and little view of the lake from the tent site - returned to it cause island nearby and #6 were taken. Came to like it, there’s a point to the east to see the sunrise, level spot for tent, lots of firewood. Anyone primitive-camped at Limekiln? Looked to see if there’s access to that when campground is closed. Favorite is Forked Lake in Sept/October. 🌲🏕🌅

Such a tiny percentage of Adirondack waters are off-limits to motors. Weller Pond would be a good addition to motorless waters.

@AdirondackAdventuresАй бұрын
Good question! We carry two nested plastic containers that carry our kitchen stuff. When we get to camp and unload then we use those boxes to store our food and garbage to keep it away from any critters.

Doing a single over while Solo was never a question of “can I”, it’s more a question of “should I”? I’m 51 and strong as an ox, but I’m still 51 and not nearly as agile as I used to be. For me the squeeze isn’t worth the juice. Alone, 4 days from help, isn’t a place to push close to the limit. For me it’s better to be sure footed and minimize the risk, go back and get my second pack. I love the video and content, and this is exactly how I would do it when if I was younger. My advice to anyone is be sure of the weight of your gear, and be sure of your fitness before attempting once overs on Solo Trips. Thanks for the content!

Nice comfortable setup. The bug tent looks great and having that tarp to keep gear and wood dry is crucial! Your setup is the canoe version of what I call Glam-packing. Those boats must be pretty full to carry all that! Curious about the 205cm Shadow paddle. Do you drip much water in the boat when paddling? I know that I would have wet legs with that paddle.
@AdirondackAdventures2 ай бұрын
Our boats are packed full for sure. And about the shorter paddle…Not too much water comes in but more than most people would probably prefer. I always carry a towel to keep things “dry”.

@AdirondackAdventures2 ай бұрын
Yes very high water at Little Tupper when we visited. It makes the take outs at all the campsites much different. I always have a lot of stuff so the takeout at our campsite is usually very important. No beaver dams going to Rock Pond though…that’s one benefit of high water!

Thanks for posting. I always enjoy your videos for reconnaissance for my trip ideas. If I could make a suggestion, adding a camera mount to your boat would improve your videos, giving a forward view that is not obstructed by the bow and a view of you that has more scenery in the background rather than sky. I'll be starting an Oswegatchie Traverse this coming Tuesday, starting with the 2 mile carry in to the Upper Dam since the Lower Dam access is still off limits. Hoping to see few to no people, though I would say hi and chat with you if I saw you. ;)

Thanks for the comment Tom! I really do appreciate you taking the time. My philosophy has always been to keep my videos as minimalistic as possible. First and foremost I’m a canoe tripper that’s documenting my trip - not a guy making video about canoe tripping. I’m not sure if that makes sense but my videos are gritty because I’m not trying to be entertaining per se - It’s more to accurately document my trip. With that said, I did recently purchase a mount that I think could add something to the videos without compromising my experience. Thanks again for the suggestion!

The DEC Info locator map shows 5 sites on the big island. Two on the southern shore, one on the west, and two more on the north. We stopped for lunch this summer on the small island and that site was nice except that people refuse to use the thunderbox, and instead go behind every single tree. Don't even bury it. 🤢

Thanks for the review. Last year, I was looking for either a Swift or Placid Boatworks used for the Adirondack tripping. I was about to give up and test a new one and then this boat came up an hour from me in Pennsylvania. A very rare find of a good canoe in PA. I have come up 3x times with it so far and couldn't be happier. It was barely even uaed.
