Back in the day we would do whatever to rig up something to spin the pump. Then i learned the easy way when i worked in a shop. Pressurized container filled with oil and plumbed into a sender port and it has a connection for shop air to pressurize it. I took it a step further at home and got a new bug sprayer and rigged a line on it. Oh i added a hole for a tire valve,so you can check the pressure. The hand pump on those will give you 50psi easy. Ive used it 3-4 times so far and its alot easier and you dont have to rush to reassemble anything, id shut off the valve i installed and hit the key.

That's unfortunate. But as long as you remove the head and have it all checked out, it should be fine. I have seen a good amount of motors that jump and end up being just a bent valve . I would just stress using OEM timing components. I've always had great luck with them. Keep me posted.
