Perry you do this reversal in nogi also ? Any changes to make?
@perryBJJ2 жыл бұрын
Yes... instead of grabbing the belt, the arm over the back cups the far armpit. (Whichever grip you use, make sure to keep the elbow of the arm over the back pushing down, to break the opponent's posture). But it's not even just no gi; sometimes the opponent's belt is off or tied way too loose to be useful. So, instead of a belt grip or cupping the opponent's far armpit, you can also use that same hand to instead grab the gi at the opponent's armpit.

On your first takedown, before you replace the left leg with the right, you can complete the takedown with the left. Am I correct? It is just a very harsh takedown. Nearly a throw. Is that correct?
@perryBJJ2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely; there are a number of finishes when you get a body lock. This is a just one version that is pretty gentle & safe to practice, especially for people who are new to take downs.
@7mikepd2 жыл бұрын
@@perryBJJ But do you know what takedown I'm talking about? I think it is just the Sumo step to the same side as the arm trap and it causes their body to flip almost horizontal before landing chest to chest. It was a takedown I worked on for about a week, had to take a break from grappling for a while, and I really forget the details of it, and don't know a name so I can't find a video anywhere.
@perryBJJ2 жыл бұрын
@@7mikepd Yes, I'm familiar. We do that finish as well. Classic finish. You're "popping" your hips to take them off their feet. (We called it a "mat return" in wrestling). You can also add a back arch & turn(to your left) when you pop you hips. That makes it more of a slam. Or, you can basically fall onto your butt and add a little hip pop & bridge to you left, which is more of a gentle slam. That's the nice thing about this position: you have multiple options, you can finish it how you want. PERSONALLY, I find a lot of benefit in teaching GENTLE take-downs to new students. IF you teach them a high amplitude throw or cool slam they will NOT want to practice after a couple falls. BUT, on the other hand, if you tech them a gentle take-down, they have no problem doing plenty of reps and getting functional with it --and that's really the goal. Take Care!

Recently one of my gymmates started use this. So how may I kill this move? Is there any legitimate way?
@perryBJJ3 жыл бұрын
Yes... Let's assume you're on your opponent's RIGHT SIDE and he's controlling your LEFT arm: Sprawl and move your center line SIDEWAYS (towards your opponent's head) so that you're in a very "high" Side Control. You want to get your chest OVER your opponent's face. I use my RIGHT hand to help assist in pushing push my body to my Left; I either push off the mat or push off my opponent belt or torso. 2) Immediately, using the fingers of your Left hand, "walk" your Left arm out of your opponent's biceps grip by walking your Left hand even further to your Left. You opponent's grip will not be able to follow as you then continue to walk your Left hand around your opponent's head and to the FAR Side. Once your Left elbow is on the far side of your opponent's head, you have succeeded. (NOTE: If you don't first move your ENTIRE body to your Left, none of this will be possible.) Basically, you are going from a top Side Control position to a top Corner Hold position. IME, almost nobody does this counter, but it works better than anything else I've seen. Simply sprawling, backing up or posting with your (Left) leg are not the best answer. If the person on top can get that (Left) elbow to the far side of the opponent's head, they have countered the move. Which, conversely, means when you're the guy DOING this move from the bottom you really need to have a Pitbull-like attachment to that arm. Good luck!!

@@perryBJJ Thank you very much for your very kind and detailed response. I'll try this with my gymmate next rolling session. Plus this roll seems very effective. I'll try to incorporate this roll into my game as well. :D

@@perryBJJ This worked very well today. Plus it seemed that I could attack the isolated far side arm or apply north-south choke after I successfully move to the top corner hold position, though I'm not 100% sure whether I executed this counter correctly as you explained. Thank you very much again!

How do you escape that headlock type position at 2:00?
@perryBJJ4 жыл бұрын
Great question... Put you opponent on his back. You can do that by doing any version of a Rear Drop type of throw, or a Single Leg Scoop Throw (below), both of which will put your opponent on his back.

Another great vid. The thing about chubby guys in jiu jitsu is you need to be aware they are usually chubby because they aren't working as hard, because its easy for them, because they wreck people. The best guy in AZ who literally wrecks everyone is 5'10 and about 320lbs, fat. Total spider guard and omoplata player. Toys with every black belt ive ever seen him roll with like they are Blue Belts. Its nuts.
