yeah but useless with decent fighter opposition which is why the germans should have waited till the tirpitz and the graf zepplin were ready before venturing into the atlantic with the bismark.When the channel dash happened with guisesenau scharnhorst and prinz eugen they were unfortunately slaughtered

Come to think of it, the long lance torpedo was quite a weapon too.

I have read that the swordfish sunk more enemy ships than any other make of allied plane during the war. I am not sure if that is true, but they were in front-line service for the whole war! Amazing - one of my favourite aircraft.

What does "BIS" mean?
@LookinThePast
@LookinThePast 7 күн бұрын
It is in the video. It means "second"
@mybluebelly
@mybluebelly 6 күн бұрын
@LookinThePast Say what? Second what? And so you mean A is first?
@LookinThePast
@LookinThePast 6 күн бұрын
"Bis" is the latin word for "second". The Z.1007 is the base model aircraft, the "Bis" is the second iteration (the latin "bis" word means "encore" "second" or "again"), and the "Ter" is the third iteration ("tertius" in latin meaning third)

@ Well that`s actually very interesting, i`ve been wondering about this for years, lol. Had no idea it was latin. So there is no term for the initial type then, only for the 2nd and 3rd as in this case?

My father, Sal Gruttadauria, Sr. was a signalman on this ship during this attack. He passed away 4 years ago from COVID. He was so proud of his service and wore is Ticonderoga baseball cap until the day he died. A poster of the ship hung in his family room and I now have that poster in my office. What courageous men with such patriotism. Brings tears to my eyes to actually see what they went through. The greatest generation!

I dont think the M3 Stuart was a bad design but all Light Tanks of that era were just that, Light. Sending them out to fight heavier tanks was like sending babies to fight bears. The M3 Stuart weighed 15 tons. The M4 Sherman weighed about 34 tons. Late war light tanks were heavier and better armed but that was basically because they were lightly armored medium tanks. The M24 Light Tank has a dual-purpose 75mm like the M3/M4 Medium Tanks, but only lightly armored and fairly heavy(20 tons) for a "light" tank. Attempts to make Light Tanks successful as frontline tanks later didnt really work. The M24 was too little, too late. The M41 Walker Bulldog was armed with a longer 76mm gun. That was replaced by a M551 Sheridan armed with a 152mm gun/launcher. That has been effectively replaced by the M2/M3 Bradley IFVs. The secret was technology, specifically anti-tank missiles.

Only one Heinkel 115 excist today at the Sola aviation museum near Stavanger , Norway . It was recovered from the fjord right next to the museum . I was there when they brought it ashore . Although there was corrosion as you would expect it was still in a very good condition with even the paintwork very well preserved . Go and see it if you can . Nice video , thank you .

Hello, I love your program, always very interesting. I wonder if you know of the 500,000th WW2 Canadian built CMT truck. Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge all manufactured the same model for the war. But the 500,000th was the only one to every leave the factory badged with all three companies logos officially on it's grill. I've seen pictures of it and found a little history but have no idea what happened to it after the promotion pictures. I'd love to know more. If you can find more that would be great but if you can't I completely understand. Keep up the Great Work, can't wait for the next video. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦🇨🇦 Thanks again, Dale

You realize that the US had a helicopter operational since 1942. When a Uboat surrendered in 1945, the H4 was hovering over the Uboat.
