I just traveled in Iceland days ago. I didn't expect icelandic food is actually pretty good, not like other Nordic countries😂. The soup tastes surprisingly similar to what I had in my hometown, a town in Northwestern China. I will definitely try this recipe.

Iceland Food Center sounds like University for Nutrition. You must know evrything about Icelandic food. So my expectations are high. Since a long time I'm looking for a recipe, how to make Skyr. What you can buy in Germany does not taste like Skyr in Iceland. I would be very thankful, if you can help me. And thanks a lot for all the intresting recipes I already found on your channel.

Looks yummy! By the way, the næpa - that you called a swede and a rutabaga, I personally would've called a turnip. Apparently you can get "white turnips" as well. And I understand some folk call turnips "neeps," too. Also, I was hoping you might put some kohlrabi in the soup? You know, hnúðkál. Still, I've never made it or eaten it before, so what do I know...

We use rófa/rutabaga, not næpa/turnip. Slight difference but, hey it's all family. Hnúðkál sounds like STD.

I absolutely love this dish! I’ve been making it about once every two weeks during the winter.

If you really really love it you should aim for once a week. "once a week and you won't be weak" is an old Icelandic proverb I just made up.

Hi! Thanks for this amazing recipe! I love Iceland and baking this makes me feel I’m not too far from this amazing country. I have a question that I hope you could answer. My Rúgbrauð always cracks on the top. Is there a tip to keep the top smooth? Maybe more kefir? Anyway it is delicious but I’m a perfectionist you know haha! Thanks and hopefully I’ll be able to visit Iceland again this year ❤

It's all about expectations, just lie to yourself that you're aiming for a rustic rúgbrauð. But yeah, probably needs to be a bit wetter.

I just finished putting together my Vinarterta (Icelandic Prune Cake). It was my first time making it. My mom used to make it for Christmas now and then. I can't wait til it's ripened and ready to eat. Now I happened to find this delicious recipe. I love licorice and choc. I never heard of the 2 together. I wonder if I'll be able to find choc covered licorice somewhere. I'd like to try this sometime.

It may be the climate, or maybe the "cultural exchange" that happened from 795 AD when your forebears invaded Scotland, but our Scotch Broth is very similar. We tend to add pearl barley rather than your usual rice. Brilliant soup, I was brought up on Scotch Broth, our family would usually have it with two of our meals a day, six days a week. A good, inexpensive way to feed a growing family & a great way to get vegetables into children who are picky eaters. I love to add some parsnips when I make kjötsúpa or Scotch broth, their sweetness goes with the lamb/hogget/mutton so well.

I am trying to make this recipe. When I googled your amounts you state in your video, to change them to cups, they differ considerably from what you have written below. And my dough is very moist compared to yours in the video when I followed the recipe below. Also, it did not cook in 7-8 minutes. What am I doing wrong?

Came back from Iceland to my home of Seattle recently. This dish I believe needs to gain more international adoption. It was fucking awesome, no matter the shop that served it, it tasted amazing. I understand Iceland at least the capital is more touristy and international with more focus on Japanese and Mexican cuisine, but this traditional dish was by far my favorite during my trip.
