Do the college offer short term customized courses in relation to the handling IMDG courses. I intend to send some of our employees to undertake such courses.

AMC could really do with a good content creator. They would attract so many new people to the industry if they put some effort into creating some good informative videos. So much available from the states re maritime training, space is wide open in OZ.

He should of already dropped anchor then it wouldn’t of been a all out emergency. If the anchor doesn’t hold then it may be deemed an emergency.

Yes, well if he had a small electric transom motor, he could have done an assisted drift and limp back to a safer spot. Probably better to call in a Pan-Pan instead of calling Mayday, however, this scenario shows that some people shouldn't be out on a boat. It's always the people that plan their trip, carry the necessary equipment, maintain it as well as having contingency plans in place IF and WHEN incidents arise that rarely need to use them.

If the boat is threatened by “grave and imminent danger” then MAYDAY is correct. No power and close to rocks with strong winds …. MAYDAY is correct.

I went to AMC in 87/88 and completed an Associate Diploma of Maritime Radiocommunication (with ROGCP/BOCP exemption). Spent nearly 7 years at sea as a ship's Radio Officer. I then took the skills I gained at AMC and worked as a field service technician for another 6 years (scales and packaging and Lottery totalisator) . Later I studied art and became a secondary teacher of Visual Arts.....and also mathematics ....and now I'm teaching art and Engineering Studies (my AMC tech knowledge still paying dividends!).
