I used to love this store. I came in weekly to grab rubio, epoxy and random offcuts of wood to play with. But mostly i just loved the smell of the woods. During my last visit, a fella that looked a whole lot like this same fella asked me why i was picking out the offcuts that i wanted. So let me get this straight. Im buying offcuts someone else had already paid for and you feel i shouldnt be allowed to pick out the offcuts i wanted? KMA.

How to keep clean of wood pool deck from whitening from water?
@AdvantageLumber19 күн бұрын
Any deck near water should be sealed for weatherproofing. It could be starting to go grey due to not being oiled. That's ok though. Ipe Oil by Deckwise will bring the color right back. You'll want to use cleaner and brightener to clean the entire deck before applying the oil for best results.

If you want to risk your expensive epoxy resin project to inferior colorants listen to this guy. Otherwise, use the colorants that are intended to mix with epoxy. Besides, the colorants are the cheapest part of your project.

A lumber company pointing out all the negatives of (some) composite decking? No way! But seriously, like most things in life you get what you pay for. You can spend less on a wooden deck and do annual or biannual maintenance, or pay significantly more for a decent composite deck and basically just do annual cleaning. Or you could buy the cheapest composite deck available and get the results shown in this video. The end.
@AdvantageLumberАй бұрын
We also sell composites. Trex, TimberTech, and Deckorators. This video was pointing out off brand, cheap composites vs actual wood.

Are metallic paint and mica paint the same type of paint?
@AdvantageLumber2 ай бұрын
No. Mica powder is a silicate material. Before processing the silicate(mica) comes out of the ground in large pearlescent sheets or flakes, which have a naturally shimmering, iridescent property. Which can make it appear to look like metallic paint.

A dislike is about all I can do here. You are all over the place when it comes to the topic, but you are basically missing any useful information. You spent 30seconds talking about pizza in epoxy, someone asked the question "how much pigment should I use" you say 5grams. Then, two minutes later you say to use less to get this effect. ??? At first, I didn't think a ten-minute video would be enough time to go over everything in the title, but you barely use 10 minutes to talk about mica powder.
@AdvantageLumber2 ай бұрын
The video is meant to be an overview of all the different types of epoxy colorants. The 5 grams rule is not really a rule. You can use more or less. The video even mentions testing with a clear cup to see how your colorant turns out as you mix. In the other part of the video, you mentioned "Two minutes later you say to use less to get this effect." That's because what is being referenced is a different type of colorant. It's mica powder but it's a color-shifting mica powder. This video was never meant to be a how-to, it was only meant to give an overview of the different types of epoxy and introduce newcomers to the world of epoxy. We're sorry the video wasn't what you were looking for.

Is there a chance of mold growing under these?
@AdvantageLumber2 ай бұрын
As long as you use the Deck Tile Connectors, you'll be resistant to mold. The reason is with the connectors the wood itself never touches the ground.

Which color doesn’t affect yellowing of epoxy?
@AdvantageLumberАй бұрын
The color doesn't matter. Almost all epoxy will yellow over time, due to heat, moisture, and environment. Keeping it indoors, cool, and dry will help it last a long time.

being told by several contractors that have used trex and timberline hidden fadtners that they really shouldnt be used on second story decks. i live in colorado so we get very hot sun and then bursts of very cold. Do i really need to screw in deckorators from the top?
@AdvantageLumber3 ай бұрын
There are many fasteners to choose from. Deckorators also has the hidden fastener system. If you want to go in the top, Deckorators also makes a fastener system with plugs to hide the screwhead. It's called the Pro Fastening Systems. Trex and Timbertech also have this fastener system. Just match the plugs to the color and style of the deck you are using within the same brand for the exact seamless match.

You can use a normal floor sander for a standard wood deck. Make sure you are using the correct grit and are moving in the correct direction of the grain.

Product has great color options. If this product is used for outdoor deck flooring, the darker colors will get extremely hot on sunny days. We had a similar decking product leading up to a pool, very hot on the feet.
@AdvantageLumber4 ай бұрын
Yes the darker color spectrum absorbs more heat. If you're in a sunnier climate maybe a lighter color might work for you. Technically, any surface sitting in the sun all day will be hot. Those darker colors are irresistible though. They are so stunning.

can you mix alcohol inks with mica?
@AdvantageLumber5 ай бұрын
No it is not recommended. Alcohol Inks are for transparent and mica powder is opaque. Adding Mica powder will over take the entire mix and you won't even see any of the alcohol ink.

how do you get that effect at 5:07 is that just blue powder, light blue powder and white powder mixed into the bucket at the same time? then when you pour it it comes out like that?

Please explain what happens when you lay your decking on top of all of those 1/4 hex heads. Nothing flush, board will rock or be uneven. We use many different versions of metal.framing and this exposed head will create nothing but a head ache. What am I missing here. Your brochure even shows a plethora of 1/4 heads sticking up on the stairs.
@AdvantageLumber6 ай бұрын
You mark where the screw will land on the back of the deck board and drill a small recessed hole with something like a forstner bit wide enough and just deep enough for the screw head to get recessed into the deck board. This allows the deck board to sit flush on the joists with the rest of the deck boards.
