NOT obsolete. Rescuers need to be knowledgeable and proficient in all manner of devices, and be able to pull out these "bulletproof" devices when the "cool and easy" new mechanical widgets break or don't work.

Single shoring jacks are typical installed from the top down. By setting the top one first you minimize the potential for the bank collapsing at the top of the trench under the feet of the worker that is setting the jack.

The inverter on this car is known for failing unexpectedly. My 2013 has eaten two already, over 160k miles. Here's the rundown: - IMA light will come on along with the red 12v battery light. Regenerative braking and motor assist will stop working. The car will feel sluggish and the engine may cut out when you give it too much gas (it feels sort of like a failing alternator on a regular car). - Limp the car home ( and do not continue to drive it. If the battery dies, there are going to be more problems to deal with. - Under 150k miles, according to a Honda service bulletin, Honda will cover the cost of the replacement. If that's your case, then INSIST that they check the inverter first when you bring it to the dealership. I've heard of people getting the runaround for weeks when they bring their car in for this repair. - If you're not under 150k, then you're gonna need to buy a new one. Current part # is 1B200-RW0-020, and they call it either an Intelligent Inverter Unit (IIU) or Motor Power Unit (MPU); apparently those names are interchangeable. It's about $2300. - The replacement is pretty easy. Google "2012-2015 honda civic hybrid inverter service bulletin" to find the service bulletin, which includes a step-by-step procedure.

I have to say, what a great comment. Thank you for putting awesome information out there like this, it is very helpful and insightful. I just bought a 2015 Civic Hybrid today for cheap because the transmission is said to be bad -- I will soon find out if that's truly the case.

So your rescuers actually had no belay through the entire scenario. There was so much slack between the stokes and the rigging that the rescuer would have cratered before being caught by the other system. Please don’t teach this.

So there are rescuers on the rope that can't lift their own body weight. I think their strength might lay in planning and coordination perhaps. Letting the other team members that meet to requirements would leave the nonfit bodies less likely to be injured and be able to help the P/T if they need to lift them too. It's like sending a person into the CSE and they may or not have a 2nd rescuer tailing them depending on the size and rescue level required and having to haul 200-350 lbs > worker out while only being 150lbs with adv or below strength ( so decent fit but nothing remarkable or reliable for rescue).

So, that’s what these tools are called. One episode of the TV show “Third Watch“ involved the rescue of an elderly woman who was trapped in ice, and I remember thinking the tools they used to break the ice enough to pull her out sounded like miniature jackhammers. Of course TW was a fictional show, but people I know who work in the emergency services and have watched it has said they did a good job portraying the police officers, firefighters and paramedics.

Although Honda "improved" the battery of the Civic Hybrid from 2012 to 2015 (the hybrid was discontinued after 2015) all that you need to know about the car is when the IMA light does come on (and it will eventually) not even the Honda Mechanics know how to resolve the issue. I have a 2013 with about 100k and light has come on and when I took it to Honda the mechanics said the battery is fine and I need a new radiator. This is too bad for Honda and may be the biggest error that the company has ever made. I am not presently sure if they will ever be able to restore their VERY damaged reputation. Finally, if anyone out there knows what is REALLY causing the IMA light to come on from 2012 to 2015 then give an honest answer with evidence. I will never buy a HONDA again.

I’ve had soooo many issues with mine. A $3,000 inverter a year after I bought it … only Honda could install. My ac compressor went out and car wouldn’t drive. $3,000 for that. Ac compressor price was insane and wasn’t super easy to find. I paid about $10k for this car and put $6k into it. Has a KBB value of MAYBE $3k. 🤦🏻♀️ And I still owe on this bastard. I will never get another Honda either and I’ve owned 3 before this one. Toyota or Subaru will be my next go to.

I have a 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid with the IMA. I need help with a code I received on a scanner. The code is P0AE1. High Voltage Bypass Contactor Malfunction. On the dash, I have both IMA, check engine, and a couple of other lights on. Only one code. Could it be the hybrid battery? or something else. If I can get more info and help. Thank you very much!

@@davidburkholder7360 I got rid of the car, didn’t want to spend more than what I had in mind. I think after all it would of been the inverter/converter. I really don’t see why it would be the radiator. That’s completely unrelated.
@davidburkholder73603 жыл бұрын
@@nexersantana Yeah. More curiosity/frustration than anything as I sold my 2013 Hybrid today. The battery charges normally BUT no one can tell me why the IMA light is on (sometimes). The basic problem with these IMA cars is that there are (instead of one major thing) now two major things that can be costly (engine/IMA Battery). Too bad but Honda screwed this one up and sadly they never really admitted it and if they would have it would have helped them.

This is well presented video. If I can make a suggestion, based on what I am seeing here, this is a classic American Death Triangle setup. At 1:53 you have a nice graphic to show the setup. IF the line fails at any point , it will unwind all the way through the other anchor. Again, I could be missing something but it appears as such.
@mikemccord83992 жыл бұрын
Correct. This system will not “pendulum”. It will expand catastrophically and the hit on the remaining anchors and load will be severe. He is about 3/4 of the way to having a good anchor system, but his physics are a little off. If you spend much time watching very many of his videos they are fairly easy to pick a part
@joshhayes219610 күн бұрын
Yes that is correct. A better way is the make a small Y or crows foot. Around 12-20” in length and back tie each leg to an anchor. That way if any leg fails you or your rescuer only see a 12-20” drop which greatly reduces the shock load on the system.

2:43 you have created a 3:1 mechanical advantage if you are lifting yourself or a 2:1 mechanical advantage if you are getting lifted by someone on the ground. Every pound of force you pull on that rope is a pound taken off the MPD at the harness. If you + gear weigh 200lb, there is 66.7lb tension in the downline between the Gibbs and the MPD, 66.7lb tension in the upline from the MPD to the pulley, and 66.7lb tension in the downline between the pulley and your arms (while ascending). Your arms are holding 1/3rd of the weight and the harness is holding 2/3rds of the weight... Until you stop, then 100% of the weight is being held by the MPD at the harness. On the other hand, if you are being lifted from the ground, the forces are: Gibbs to MPD = 100lb (50%) MPD to pulley = 100lb (50%) pulley to ground crew = 100lb (50%) force in main line from Gibbs to anchor = 300lb (150%).

Hello Dalan. Just a question. When you showed the Foot straps attachment points you said that passing it through the handles is acceptable. Acceptable by whom? It isn't mentioned in any of factory manuals from what I remember. On the other hand good you passed rope through the handles just that it should be done through the center of the handles instead of the stitched handle area you guys passed it through. Remember that there are some models with that space reduced and in any case rope friction may start causing damage to the handle stitching. Nice videos you guys have posted!! Keep up the good work and Stay Safe

It's a good observation. My guess is he is using a type G rated 40+ kN, so his body weight is negligible relative to its WLL. Still, most manufacturers don't approve their doubles for single sheave use.

That has got to be a pain in the ass to ascend any kind of real distance with. I'm sure it is possible but there are way more practical ways for a person to get up a rope... even an out of shape person. Why I don't see more frog systems in rope rescue is a mystery to me.
