they shouldnt really rust, mine has been completely rust free, except recently where it looks like its rusting under the paint from a bad collision repair. since ive owned the car its been hit 3 times while parked, and once while driving. somehow never my fault. so this car is some sort of target for other drivers to crash into, be warned. lol. unless im just unlucky. anyway, one of the repairs the guilty party was very very difficult to deal with, and the best i could get was him taking it to his mechanic friend for repairs. he refused to go through his insurance. i only had third party. the repairs looked good. but 3 years later, they clearly half arsed it and did not properly remove the rust and user proper undercoat and primer. im pissed off, as i look after the car, and its still going strong at 364,000kms so to have someone else fuck it up for me sucks. oh well.

a cool car but still falls short to be competitive for any other vehicle released at the time. I dont understand why it weighs 3000 lbs. its 380 lbs more than the Celica SS-III despite having such cheap interior bits. I cannot stand how cheap the dash is (made of plastic) These didnt even come with optional recaro SR2 like the AE111, SW20, JZA, and ST20# chassis. even when best motoring thru the short gear ratios and shorter final drive it still didnt make a difference when compared to the DC2 integra..

Loved your video.😊 In 2018 we purchased a red 99 Starlet LX 3 dr hb. It's New Zealand new and we're the 2nd owners. The original owner won it in a dealer's raffle. The paint's a bit wonky, but some rubbing compound and several coats of wax got that sorted. At purchase it had 94,000+ miles on it. It's now up to 108,500+. After getting the rotors, loaded calipers, rr shoes all replaced it was just oil/gas filters, cambelt, pulleys, waterpump, belts, hoses, battery, radiator flush, wiper blades. The weather here in Wellington is mild, so the rust is minimal. This is easily the best car I've ever owned. Because of its age it requires a bi-anual WOF. New 155x13 tyres w/parts store plastic wheel covers. Painted the rim flat black, so it looks pretty good all around. The mechanics at the WOF garage cal it The Red Warrior. lol

Yup, starlet is one of the best first cars to get in western Europe. Cheap, fun, 'punshy' 16v engine reliable, easy to work on, rather practical with folded seats
