The Prophet said the judge who makes a correct judgement will get two rewards but the one who gets it wrong will have a single reward (if they are qualified to be a judge). He also says My companions are like stars follow whichever you like and you will be guided. He asked Ibn Masood How he will judge, he said Quran, and if you dont find the answer there? Then the sunnah, and if you dont find it there? His opinion. The Prophet confirmed this was good. He also said The scholars are the successors of the Prophets. And my scholars do not err as a collective. Allah says the most god fearing are the scholars and ask the people of knowledge if you don't know. As long as the scholar is authorized on a proper chain from the prophet sallahu alayhi wa sallam, his opinion is safe to follow. And if the scholar is on an accepted madhhab meaning he is not making is own opinions but rather on the same methodology as 100s of thousands of scholars before them, it is even safer. Brother you need to pay the kafaarah for making a false oath and make tawbah for distracting the people from the lights of our ummah. The Prophet sallahu alayhi wa sallam said, my ummahs scholars are like the prophets of bani israel. May Allah guide all of us. Ameen
