The reason norton left was not only for marvel not seeing his visions for the character. Norton understands the hulk better than anyone else but marvel declined all of the ideas he gave them and it's also that he hated working with joss whedon

I still think the best thing Marvel could have done with RDJ as Dr. Doom was to not announce it. Don't even allude to him being in the movie. Keep the mask on and his voice is iconic enough that his first spoken dialogue would have people wondering wait? His voice sounds familiar. Then big fight and his mask comes off. It's those big reveals I feel that are missing from recent Marvel movies (excluding DP&W)
