It's 2024. I'm 64. There is something about the recordings in Ms. Jackson's time period that just touched my soul & makes me sob 😭! No fanfare, drums, guitar - just the singer & God ❤️

My Sis Mahalia singing this hymn reminds me of my late sweet Mother who would only allow SPIRITUALS to be played in our childhood home! I was not saved when I was a little girl, but got saved, along with my late husband, in the 1970s and have been loving and adoring my Darling Savior Jesus ever since! Mother lived to see me come to Christ!

Thinking of the late Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon today. Listening to the choral group she founded helps, with mourning and with thankfulness for her accomplishments and legacy.

Bernice died 2 days ago. Few people can speak their own times. This woman spoke CENTURIES. Respect and awe.

Yes, she did. I am finding that listening to her recordings, under her own name and in this incredible group, is helping with sorrow, though this hymn has me tearing up. It's the most beautiful version I've ever heard.

Pastor Shirley Caesar has always been a very powerful anointed woman of God, I listen to her all down through the years as a young girl my mom would play her album in the house and ❤❤❤cassettes.

I like this version, but there was another version back in the day when Mrs. Williams was describing an argument her husband was trying to start with her. But her mama kept on moaning. She said, "Mama kep own moanin." I need to find THAT version.

I am on a pilgrim journey of sorrow. I'm left in this whole wide world, I'm left in this wide world alone. I have no hope for tomorrow, But I've started to make Heaven my home. Well, sometimes, I am tossed. Sometimes I am driven low, Sometimes, my dear lord, I don't know To which way I can roam. But I've heard of a city called Heaven, And I've started to make heaven my home.
