I am the mandolin player who recorded this on Sutherland Avenue in Knoxville, TN. I was 17 years old and am almost 60 now. I was paid 25.00 to make this simple recording.

What the Flooded Mine scene from The Story Of The Dunsons should look like: Mike: (About to ride the Flooded Mine with his dad as a little kid, and worried that he misses his sisters and mom.) I think we should've brought Lorelei and Nicole, but right now since Nicole is recovering from getting her tooth pulled, she had to stay home with Lorelei and my mom. (They go on the ride, and they listen to the song.) (During The Ride, the song kept playing). Mike: I knew that Silver Dollar City is the safest place for when Lorelei or Nicole get surgery, but it may not be an option. (sighs because he misses his sisters) (After the ride is over, they cheer him up by taking him on Fire In The Hole, a roller coaster Lorelei rode and she was so scared. Since then she was still scared of that ride.)

I agree with you, The guard shack had the song playing all day long, and it was easy to just stand there with the tape recorder and capture the song. However, with all the crowds and people walking by you also capture those sounds too. 😁

I appreciate all your efforts on this over the years, which I stumbled upon today in searches. I too heard this song on annual vacations as a child in the 80s. What led me searching today was hearing Steven Moore's rendition of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again," (2022) and some of the notes were immediately recognizable. The songs aren't note-for-note the same, but the similarities make me wonder if there's something there to the origin.

Back before youtube in the early days of dial up internet I did some heavy research including contacting SDC abut the song. Who wrote it, what were all the lyrics, who recorded it? And there wasn't any information out there at all and no one had any answers. All I had was a cassette tape recording of it. I guess I decided to take matters into my own hands to preserve the song just in case it might be lost forever. Now, with todays technology and many other people posting videos and sound clips we won't have to worry about losing the Flooded Mine song. Sorry my reply went on a bit long. Thanks for your reply!
