Hi Yanto, Breadfruit trees are well adapted to be grown at sea-level all around the pacific. They can be found growing on beaches at the first tree line, however, each area is different and just because it grows on one beach doesn't mean it would grow well on any beach. It depends on conditions (soil, climate, wind, salinity). They are found to produce fruit up to around 1,500 ft. elevation in Hawai'i.

I have been cultivating a grove of Ulu Maoli from the pulapula that a mother tree on my property has put out, I have been pruning them from the begining to keep the trees short & encourage lateral branching (maybe some of it was too severe as I had to guess as how to do it with only hand lopers I'm a small female who's afraid of using a chain saw especially to cut thick ulu branches) I have been patiently waiting for 5 years for these trees to make flowers & finally two of the trees have begun forming what look like the beginnings of female flowers at the tip of the branches they are light green not yellow, but I don't see any male inflorences, are the males eventually going to come out to play? or should I just give up already & go get a Ma'a fala from the nursery, but then I'd have to wait 2 more years for fruit?

Aloha Monica, it could be a number of things. What elevation are your trees? Does the mother tree fruit well? The trees do go through some shock when pruned and if the trees are too severely stressed it can delay the fruiting by years, especially if they are young trees and if they are overcrowded by other trees. It could also be a nutrient deficiency or some other environmental factor.

Hello I hope you are well. I researched your channel and found that your channel has some problems. You need to customize your channel to increase views, subscribers and even monetization. If your channel is a little optimized and if the videos are SEO then your channel will rank very fast and your channel will grow. Your channel SEO is very low. Do you want to customize? As soon as you upload the video, if SEO is not done, your video will never go viral and will never reach new viewers. I am waiting for your response. Have a nice day. Thanks & regards

Mahalo! We’ve been considering planting an Ulu tree. I’m half Irish and years ago I grew potatoes which was wonderful but that was in Northern California. It felt so good to grow our own food. Now I live on the BI and I want to grow something that we can cultivate here. We bought an Ulu from a local grower to make sure it’s something we can cook or that we would prepare and store if we had a tree. I’ve eaten it here and liked but never prepared it myself. Awesome video thanks!

Any problems with the LFA on Hawaii? I’m on the east side of the big island and most of the farmers stopped farming already because of the “electric ant” or “lfa” commonly known in Hawaii as the fire ant.

Mahalo ke Akua, it seems that many paths are coming together, I will be working with my long time friend, Sir Donald Kauli'a, descended from Kauli'a the Navigator who brought his people from New Zealand when they landed at South Point, on the Big Island. Our task is to help restore food security in the islands, as well as abundant clean energy and water. I know Dr. Diane Ragone, at the National Tropical Botanical Garden, on Kauai'i and her work with Global Breadfruit to gather and grow over 200 Ulu varietals in her collection.

Thanks for posting this video. I live in Northern California are would like to buy Ulu. Do you know of any markets where I could buy some? I love it! Traditional farming roots ☺️ A reply is appreciated. Stay Blessed 😇

Ulu is very hard to find outside it's cultivation zones because of it's very short shelf life. You might be lucky to find frozen breadfruit at Caribbean markets there you are, but they will likely be very immature and not flavorful (easy indicator of this will be if the skin is green; will taste very bland and somewhat sappy)
