Uhhh...I believe we may have some misconceptions regarding the GM-30's ability to do extra channels. As with most CCJ (cheap Chinese junk) radios, I could not get the factory software into my ancient computer. Weeks after purchasing it I learned that RT Systems has software for the GM-30. Tried programming it tonight. Channels 1 through 22 and Repeater 1 thru 8 (I thought GMRS radios were supposed to have a standard numbering system that included 1-22 and Repeater 15 thru Repeater 22?), as I do with all of my radios, I set to encode only a 141.3 tone. Then I got to the DIY channels. What a catastrophe! The DIY channels are hardwired where you cannot change the frequencies, only the Name and PL/DPL codes. My radio/software screen looked a bit different than yours in that you would have DIY 1 being Simplex for 462.550, DIY 2 being 462.575/467.575 Repeater, DIY 3 being 462.600 Simplex, and so on, on an odd-even-odd-even pattern of Simplex and Repeater capability. The odd channels are incapable of Repeater use and the even channels are incapable of Simplex use. Frequencies cannot be changed. Whoever thought up this firmware pattern was definitely not the brightest knife on the tree. As far as the remaining 95 or whatever channels, they can only be programmed to receive. They have no transmit capability, even on GMRS. For me at least, this is a 100% deal killer as far as buying a Radioddity GM-30 goes. Just more CCJ.

I'm using Adobe Premier Pro. It seems to be the easiest to use. It's not free, but it does work very well, and there's tons of youtube tutorials to teach you everything you need to know. There's other free editing software like DaVinci Resolve, but it has a steeper learning curve, and some of the advanced features have to be paid for. Just a word of warning if you don't have a higher end processor and graphics card in your pc, then the rendering times can be multiple hours. I run it on an MSI Creator laptop (around $1800), and the majority of my rending times are less than an hour for 4k videos.

You, and everyone else, need to look at the RF safe exposure calculators. GMRS max is 50 watts. That's a high gain antenna. That is almost surely an unsafe amount of RF 2 feet from your face. Might be ok for 4 watts of CB, but it SURE as shit isn't fine for 50 watts of GMRS or anything else. You are also screwing up the radiation pattern. The antenna should be on the roof, with metal between you and the RF, with you not in the radiation pattern, and with the pillars and roof not blocking your transmissions.
@k9emp
@k9emp 8 ай бұрын
It's actually a 2m/440 radio. The rf exposure distance for 2m is 1.9 ft and 2.2 ft for 440. The antenna is roughly 3 ft + from me through the windshield. I'm aware that the middle of the roof is best, but I have other plans for a roof rack and still want to park in my garage. It still works just fine. I can hit repeaters 30 plus miles out without a problem.

@@k9emp in the FCC-defined "uncontrolled/general public" category: 146 mhz at 100 watts with a 2dbi antenna and you need about 3.4 feet of distance. 440 mhz at 100 watts and a 3dbi antenna and you need almost 3.2 feet. crank your ham radio up to 200 watts at 146 mhz and you need 4.8 feet. that's to be at the EDGE of safe minimum. aimed right at your FACE. people need to stop mounting their antennas on their hoods. your FACE bro.
@k9emp
@k9emp 8 ай бұрын
It's a 50 watt radio. Nobody makes a 100 watt mobile 2m/440. The antenna is 3db on vhf and 6 db on uhf. There is also about a 1 to 1.25 db loss in the coax.

@@k9emp bro, 50 watts on the 2m band on a 3dbi antenna is still 2.7 feet minimum safe. just admit to yourself that that's not a healthy amount of RF aimed straight at your eyes. goddamn. 70cm at 50 watts and 6dbi is 3.15 feet. like absolute to the edge minimum. you think that's healthy? putting your face at the minimum edge? just admit it. it's a bad location for an antenna. even if to yourself.

@k9emp

Unfortunately, that will probably never happen. They will sell off spectrum to the highest bidder as they see fit. The only thing we can do is make the hobby more and more mainstream and try to get more politicians on our side. The more politicians that we can get convinced that our hobby is important will help keep the FCC from selling off our spectrum. Currently, the only way to block the FCC from doing something detrimental to our hobby is getting congress members to pass resolutions to block them or force them to change rules for our benefit.

But yeah, agreed, right now we have all these "international crime syndicates" saying "No, wait! We might get a ~fine~ if we ~go above 300 baud.~ Oh well, better dump all this meth in the ocean!" Truly, you're right; the symbol rate limit is not just allowing 97 year olds to dididah in QRO about conspiracy theories and their bum knees, but it is, in fact, saving our children. And we know you took your test when men were men and the FCC would swat your hands with a wooden rattan if you slouched too much while identifying the schematic for a dip meter at the field office. What's next, are the kids (after they get done 'parking' and 'necking') going to download up the "Net-Flicks" on the radio?? We can't have that, and their tickety-tock mee-mees rolling over important QSOs like "RIG IS SWAN 270B INTO HALF WAVE LOOP AT 6 FT MADE FROM OLD HOSE". Computers are scary. Please, take my wife!
